“Unusual and interesting museum for age 10+”
Reviewed 14 December 2009

The world is full of museums. This one stands out because it focuses on the art of glass-making. The museum itself is unique in design, and the fun starts before you even go inside with much art in their courtyard. Inside, there are several galleries of glass art to view that are interesting, documented and well-displayed. But the outstanding feature of this museum is the live glass-making theater. Resident or guest artists work as the audience sits nearby in the amphitheater-style seats. A host uses a microphone to describe what is being done by the artist and assistants as they use the furnaces to heat the glass to a temperature that allows them to mold and form the glass. A unique thing is that the audience is allowed to ask questions during the process. Most people stayed at least 30 minutes here, mezzmorized by the intense heat and skill of the artists. Definitely worth the price of admission.

“Not a Place for Children”
Reviewed 29 November 2009

My son was scolded for no reason by museum gaurd. I was standing right by my seven year old son when a museum gaurd came over, bent to his level, and said, "Don't get so close to the exhibits." I've never heard of such an offense. He wasn't even touching anything. All pieces were behind glass boxes. We spent a lot of money to take our family and grandmother to the museum, and to have my son scolded for no reason was very disappointing. We will not visit the Museum of Glass again. This is not a place to take even the most well behaved children.

“Worthwhile, but disappointing, too”
Reviewed 12 September 2009

My wife and teenager, both of an artistic bent, were really looking forward to this museum, and both gave it mixed reviews. The glass blowing demonstrations (all day affairs) were simply mesmerizing, but the displays were alarmingly small and disappointing. Given the fairly pricey admission and the fact that you have to pay for parking to boot, there really should be far, far more art or other exhibits. The museum is worthwhile for the live demonstrations, but I can't recommend it very highly.

“Art Deal in Tacoma”
Reviewed 31 August 2009

Reading other reviews, I noticed that no one had mentioned the greatest Art Deal in town...The Third Thursday, when admission to the Museum of Glass is free. Additionally, the adjacent Tacoma Art Museum and the Washington State History Museum (in the evening) are free. I thoroughly enjoyed all three museums, and the price was right!

“Interesting visit”
Reviewed 23 July 2009

The musean is uniqe in that it features display areas for art glass exhibits and a theater-style area that features glass artists creating art most days, all day long.
