Owner description: Treat your family to a special day at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. Where else can you see seahorses and sharks, peacocks and penguins, wolves and walrus, all in one place? The 29-acre Zoo is large enough to offer an awesome array of animals yet small enough to let you get really close to them. Our keepers often roam the grounds, taking animals on strolls so you can see them up close. Who knows? You might run into a lynx on your way to see the polar bears! Be sure to visit Kids Zone. This fanciful exhibit engages children in active learning through play. The focus is on fun, movement and learning what animals need to thrive. The breathtaking views of Puget Sound, Mount Rainier and the Olympic Mountains are free - and so is the parking. So what are you waiting for? Bring your family to see ours. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is open at 9:30 a.m. daily. Closing times vary. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is just minutes off of I-5 in beautiful Point Defiance Park in Tacoma, WA.

My family used to take us at Christmas. They have lights everywhere and it is very fun to walk through the displays after dark..

This place has a bit of everything: small animals and birds, exotic large animals, marine life and local PNW favorites. A must go when it's sunny outside.

They have all the animals you would want to see and take good care of them. There are small critters and some peacocks that they let walk around the grounds which my daughters love. The shows are fun for the entire family. This is far better than the Seattle Aquarium.

Yes it's a zoo and aquarium in one! No lines and we used our smart phones to Purchas our tickets, so no lines. Really the only line I had to stand in was waiting for food at 1200. Every other attraction my family was able to go right up and see all the exhibits. It's an amazing place with a great lay out. Super friendly staff that work as a team and lots of extra stuff to do. Great way to spend a family day!

We took our 2 little grandchildren to the Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma. It is a neat little zoo -- not near as large as the DC Zoo or San Diego Zoo, but good for a short day trip. Even with little kids, we managed to walk through the entire zoo in a few hours. The setting, layout, and cleanliness of the zoo are outstanding. It is located in a beautiful park at the south end of Puget Sound -- very close to the water. Considerable attention has been given to providing a very informative experience at each of the exhibits and there is much emphasis on sustainability and preservation. Good lessons throughout. Those looking for large collections of animals will be disappointed -- for example, not too many big cats or primates. However, there is pretty good representation of the various animal species including an aquarium that doesn't depend on dolphin or orca shows. The zoo is reasonably accessible throughout although it is built on a hillside so that the final uphill climb to the parking areas can be formidable for some, but back and forth walkways make it doable. Our little kids handled it. There is a "grill" that serves hot dogs, sandwiches, etc. Typical fare for a zoo. The admissions seemed a little high: It was $51 for 1 senior, 1 adult, 1 6-year old, and 1 tot.
