Owner description: Treat your family to a special day at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. Where else can you see seahorses and sharks, peacocks and penguins, wolves and walrus, all in one place? The 29-acre Zoo is large enough to offer an awesome array of animals yet small enough to let you get really close to them. Our keepers often roam the grounds, taking animals on strolls so you can see them up close. Who knows? You might run into a lynx on your way to see the polar bears! Be sure to visit Kids Zone. This fanciful exhibit engages children in active learning through play. The focus is on fun, movement and learning what animals need to thrive. The breathtaking views of Puget Sound, Mount Rainier and the Olympic Mountains are free - and so is the parking. So what are you waiting for? Bring your family to see ours. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is open at 9:30 a.m. daily. Closing times vary. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is just minutes off of I-5 in beautiful Point Defiance Park in Tacoma, WA.

This zoo is actually quite large for having a young toddler. We did not get through the entire zoo prior to having to leave due to naps. Luckily, we bought a year long membership. There is a great place that you can touch sting rays and there are sharks to see. We stayed for part of their show "Dr. Bones" - supposed to be a Indiana Jones adventure type show and it was actually a very engaging, fun show with exotic animals that are not at the average zoo show. I felt like I got much closer to a lot of the animals, as opposed to other zoos. I was very pleased with our visit. They allow outside food, which helps with the cost, and have free lockers for storing items (as long as you bring your own lock). The parking is also free, making this a very low cost activity for the family. We had a wagon so we didn't need a locker but bringing outside food really helped keep our cost down.

I have not been to the Point Defiance Zoo since I was a child so this was like experiencing it for the first time. What a pleasant surprise! The zoo and aquarium are on the small side, only taking a few hours to do the entire zoo, including watching one of their entertainment shows they put on, but it is totally worth going to because it is very clean, easy to get around, not confusing and a nice variety. The show they put on ( I think it was called Indiana Bones?) was actually pretty good and worth taking the time to watch, and the animals who acted in it seemed to love their job, it was so cute! Feeding the little budgie birds for the extra $1.50 was so much fun! They came flying right up to you and started eating!!! The zoo is very well maintained and one of the cleaner zoos around. Getting tickets online saves you a couple of dollars and parking is free! Great afternoon outing for families and couples. The polar bears aren't to be missed- we happened to be there when they were really active and it was amazing...could have watched them all day!

Smaller zoo but with some good animals - polar bear, walrus, elephant, penguins. Aquarium also small but has exhibit on the rare Chimaera shark. Zoo/Aquarium were clean. Easy to get around. Carousel.

Perfect, beautiful location. One of the best zoo's I've been to. A little pricey for 4 people, but was well worth the price. You can bring your own lunch to help make up for the admission price. Wonderfully landscaped. And how can you go wrong with the adorable polar bears! I give it 5 stars!
