It's very well done, the volunteers are friendly and helpful, too. Well worth a visit if you're in to cars.

“Excellent car museum”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

LeMay America’s Car Museum takes about two to three hours to see. What I liked the most about LACM was that Mr. LeMay collected upper end makes, as well as common makes of cars. And Mr. LeMay collected compulsively, so you will see variations on the same car. Although classic cars are really not my interest, I did enjoy LACM.

Currently, Volkswagen has an exhibit, on loan, to LACM. That was a nice surprise.

Please note, that Mr. LeMay collected so extensively that there are two LeMay museums. There is the LACM and the LeMay Museum at Marymount. We didn’t make it to the Marymount museum. If you are planning to do both museums, I would recommend breaking them up into two days. There’s a lot to see at just LACM.

Hi Cheryl,

Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to ACM in May. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed yourself!

I wanted to note for other visitors that the Volkswagen exhibit closed on Memorial Day, and we now have a Masters of Mustang exhibit up that celebrates 50 years of the Ford Mustang. The Volkswagen exhibit included three significant cars on loan from Volkswagen of America, as well as a selection of vehicles on loan from private donors. We still have a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta on loan from Volkswagen on our Alternative Propulsion ramp that will be here through the end of the year.

Also, great advice about splitting the museums up into two visits! We are separate businesses, but both offer great collections of cars and experiences that definitely require several hours to fully enjoy.

4 FLOORS of Awesomeness. Cars in the Middle and on the ramps with nice descriptions. They have Videos playing speaking to various car lovers. You can even take your picture in a car for no charge. The Cars are nicely maintained in house theirs a garage on the lower level. They have some Car Simulators Set up as well. It was a Great Experience any Car Lover would appreciate. the place is worth the price.

“Amazing Collection”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

I'm not really a car buff, so when my friend suggested we spend an afternoon at a car museum I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did. The variety of cars here is unbelievable, including several vehicles in the collection that are the last one - or one of the last ones in existence.

It's a working museum. Besides four levels of car displays, you can watch cars being restored, get a sense of the research being done to make sure everything is done right, and in my case, take a trip down memory lane. During my visit, there was a special exhibit of Volkswagens, which I owned four of over the years - including a Beetle, a microbus, a Karmann Ghia and a Jetta. The display included the various designs of the Beetle, including a 1942 wartime production one in gunmetal gray with blackout hoods for the headlights.

For most Puget Sounders, it will come as a surprise to discover that there was once a vehicle-manufacturing presence in Tacoma, as evidenced by the 2.5 ton 1922 Olympic truck on display. There are electric cars, steamers, horseless carriages, three-wheelers - even motorcycles.

I'm guessing 200-250 cars are on exhibit at any one time, which makes me wish the museum were even larger, since the LeMay family collection includes over 3,000 vehicles.

Car buff or not, I highly recommend a visit.

Hi Boeflak,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to ACM. We always love hearing that even non-car buffs enjoy their visit!

You're correct that the LeMay Collection once exceeded 3,000 cars. ACM can house approximately 300 cars. The number on display will vary depending on exhibits and availability. Cars on display here are a combination of the Museum's collection, cars on loan from the LeMay Family Collection, and cars on loan from private donors. The LeMay Family Collection at Marymount also houses about 300 vehicles, so fans of the LeMay Collection or cars in general should check out both museums!

“Great place to visit for a few hours”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

A very diverse selection of autos. If you're not sure you want to pay the price of admission, just wonder upstairs to the cafe, and have a free look over the first floor of the museum. I'm sure you'll agree, the place is worth the price.

Hi Chilliwack62, thank you for taking the time to review ACM! Great advice to potential visitors: Classics Cafe is open for everyone, without Museum admission, and overlooks our picturesque Showcase Gallery.

We also feature free events throughout the summer, including our Cruise-In events and Summer Drive-In Movie Series. These are great opportunities to get a taste of what ACM has to offer. We also offer a special admission package, the Day at the Museum deal, which includes discounted admission and vouchers for the Speed Zone, Cafe, and Store.
