Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at Alderbrook Resort. The backdrop is the beautiful Olympic Mountains and the Hood Canal. The lobby has a beautiful cabin feel and has memorabilia displayed from the area. They also have a few hiking trails mapped out and maintained exclusively for Alderbrook guests. The rooms are reasonably sized. They also have cottages that accommodate families, especially ones with pets. Although I would definitely come back, just a warning about a few things. The food is terrible. At dinner, our steak was burnt, the asparagus was limp and slimy, and the chicken (their specialty) was served awkwardly in a bowl with a weird soupy mushroom concoction. As for our dessert, we left 3/4ths of it untouched. This was off of the nicer menu. The next night we ordered off the lounge menu with much better results. We also tried breakfast which was also disappointing. Another downfall is that the doors to the guest rooms close very loudly. Once guests start moving around in the morning, it sounds like constant cannon booms going off. To sum it up, I would definitely come back here. Opt for the cottages, though, and don't expect great food.

Room Tip: If possible get a water view.

We've stayed at Alderbrook Resort twice now and both times enjoyed the amazing setting and natural beauty. The main lodge is elegantly rustic with all the amenities that you would expect from a quality resort. The setting is very family and kid friendly, but perfect for meetings/retreats too, as the setting is idyllic and the food is first rate.

I booked a room by phone a week before an anniversary trip. I wanted the room pictured on the internet site with a direct view of the water. I told the reservation person that. When we arrived we were given a canal view with a view of a roof as part of the view. I asked the front desk for a waterfront view room and she said they were sold out. They did however upgrade our room to a bigger room (suite) which was very nice but not a different view. We ordered room service breakfast per the slip you fill out and place on your door the night before. I had read about the wonderful apple dumplings and my husband is a hashbrown fan so we marked those. The next morning the kitchen called saying they were out of the apple dumplings. Then they brought up the breakfast without hashbrowns OR the english muffin we had included in our order. When I called they said they would bring up the english muffin right away. When the young man arrived we asked about the hashbrowns and he said they had discontinued them about a month before but had not changed the room service order form. The potato dish they gave us was awful and inedible. THEN about an hour later housekeeping came into our room despite the do not disturb sign on the door. The housekeeper was very apologetic and upset and showed me the form that showed we had already checked out. We didn't get mad at her or the young man delivering the food as they were truly apologetic and very nice. BUT management needs to address these issues. This was a very special one night anniversary trip we splurged on and these were disappointing things to happen. I highly praise all the employees we had direct contact with, all so kind. Thank you.

This was our 6th trip to Alderbrook and probably the best yet. We have stayed in both the hotel and in the Cottages. This time we took our two kids and their two friends and stayed in a 2 bedroom cottage with sleeper sofa. Cabana Bar was open and servers were attentive and helpful. The kids used the pool, rented hyrdro bikes, fished off the dock and played Xbox in the game room. Spa mani/pedi was awesome. Restaurant is pricey ($38 ravioli) and we thought the dinners were just ok this time... Cabana bar food was reasonable and very good. Cottage was clean, housekeeprs attentive with new towels, etc.
Best part is this resort is only 45 minutes from Tacoma Narrows Bridge in WA.

We own a beach house 30 minutes from Alderbrook but had never stopped to visit the property. We stopped a few weeks ago for lunch, and the location is stunning! The property is extremely dog friendly. We had our Maltese with us and we were able to enjoy lunch at the outdoor cafe. Our lunch unfortunately was mediocre. For a resort of this caliber, we had high expectations and did not feel that the food measured up.

Given that it was the middle of the day, we would still try it again for dinner. Definitely would stay at Alderbrook just for the stunning views, family atmosphere and dog friendliness, which is important to so many people in the Northwest!

We've been once before and are planning another trip. We love the golf course and the food was fantastic! We got to try new cuisine, which I enjoyed.
Beautiful views! The resort is smoke free!!
They offered a wine tasting happy hour in the lobby where you could make friends with the two resident cats while sitting around the fire place.
Go for the "Sunrise Package" as the include a $30.00 credit for food when you charge it to your room.

Room Tip: Negotiate room prices. They'll work with you especially if you've seen it on line cheaper.

Beautiful spot, too bad they are not keeping this place up. The price does not warrant the facilities or service. Postage stamp porch, sink with missing drain stop, ragged towels, hit and miss on valet, furniture looks like it came from a thrift store, only had hand towels one day out of three, one small trash can for two rooms, exercise equipment has been ignored and sounds like it, Restaurant had dirty dishes many meals, pool towels were very thin from being very old.
