“Beautiful, relaxing, great place for a getaway”
Reviewed 8 July 2007

What a beautiful place! This large complex has a huge lodge with restaurant, a number of cabins, a spa, swimming pool, workout room and waterfront. We stayed in a cabin just steps from the water. The cabin was cozy, clean and complete. Bed was comfy, the sofa in the living room opens out into a comfy bed, fireplace was great, the coffee machine exploded on us, but was replaced quickly. There was a full jar of coffee beans and a grinder in the kitchen - soooo much nicer than those horrid little packets of ground coffee you get in even many better hotels.

The best thing, for me, was the big covered front porch. We had our meals out there (room service delivers to the cabins) and it was brilliant.

Workout room was adequate, pool looked okay but I didn't go in because it was visible to anyone walking (or boating) by, as it's floor to ceiling windows and I'm a little shy in a swimsuit.

It rained while we were there (lovely!) but I would expect that on sunny days it might be a little more frantic and noisy on the grounds. There are volleyball nets set up right in the middle of the cabins area, and grilling spots as well.

But for us it was peaceful, quiet, and a wonderful getaway spot. No complaints.

  • Liked — Privacy, great front porch on the cabins

This place is incredible and it's within an hour and a half of Seattle - with a 1 hour ferry ride and a half-hour drive - but you feel much farther away. The hotel is beautiful - the lobby area is more like a grand living room with great view, a huge fireplace, comfortable furniture, books and games. There's a spa (highly recommended to round out the relaxing) and a covered pool that still feels outdoorsy. Our room looked out over Hood Canal and it was difficult for me to find anything about the room that wasn't first-class. Think "luxury" - but not the "fancy-uncomfortable" type. Everything from the pillows and sheets to the window seat with coffee/tea bar to the room service to the double-bath were exactly what I'd want in my own house.

Due to a reservation mix-up (probably my fault), we only had 1 night reserved but they did their best to find us a room for our 2nd night and it turned out all they had was a cabin - which they gave to us for a huge discount. The cabin was incredible and, if you've got kids, this would be the way to go. 2 bedrooms, a kitchen and dining area, a living room with TV and fireplaces - and they have free DVD loaners at reception.

I can't say enough about this place.

I recently stayed at the Alderbrook with my two children and the family dog. We found the resort to be very family friendly. At the same time, I wouldn't hesitate to come back with just my husband for a romantic getaway. Our room, which faced the garden, was a little cramped, but had a luxury feel. The pool is particularly noteworthy. It looks out over the water and is truly one of the best indoor pool environments I've ever experienced. The staff did not seem to have the kind of experience or polish that you'd usually expect from a luxury resort, but their very friendly attitude and desire to be helpful made up for that. We ate at the restaurant for 2 breakfasts and one dinner and it was uniformly good. That's good because there are very few other dining options in the area. I've already recommended it to friends, and we'll definitely go back!

This is a wonderful, relaxing resort. Very upscale, large rooms. We had a "partial" view but it was beautiful. Don't pay extra for the full view. OF course, the restaurant is expensive, but we expected that. You can eat in the bar to save a few pennies or if you prefer not to have the full sit-down restaurant experience. I plan to return
to this terrific resort again and again!
