Just got back from a Memorial Day Weekend at the lodge and wishing that I never had to leave. The only gripe I have which is very, very minor is the weak wireless internet connection in our room located on the 3rd floor at the very end of the hallway. Since being on the internet isn't that important to me I didn't even bother to let the staff know.
What impressed me the most about this place is the superb customer service I received. Staff seemed to be available anytime. They are everywhere just ready to assist when needed but not intrusive. From the reception, restaurant, housekeeping, grounds, maintenance, pool, activities center, everybody always had a genuine smile and made me feel like they really want me to enjoy my stay.
Our waiter the first dinner we had was so good at anticipating our needs I was compelled to write a short thank you note. Little did I know that all our meals would be served with the same level of attention to detail.
Food at both the bar & grill as well as the restaurant were excellent. Dinner prices are a little bit pricey at the restaurant but worth it. They require a reservation so make sure to call ahead.
I did read some of the reviews here prior to booking our stay and noted that it is somewhat isolated & about 8 miles from downtown Winthrop. My take is that book a 2-3 night stay and avail of all the amenities offered. There is no need to go to town because there is so much to do: hiking, mountain bike, horseback, pool & hot tub, lake activities, game room, enjoy the view! After that you can book at a hotel closer to town for a night or two.
Our room had a king size bed & 2 twin beds. Size was more than what we need, same goes for the bathroom. No TV & fridge but we absolutely didn't need it. Everything was very clean. My husband commented that they had the freshest/best smelling linens among the hotels we've stayed at & I have to agree.
I could go on and on about this place. Highly recommend it. Make sure ask for AAA discount if you're a member.
