“Great Views, Wonderful Restaurant”
Reviewed 9 August 2012

You've read the other reviews that mention the views, and yes, they are wonderful. Lots of trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding that can keep the entire family active. There are two well-maintained swiming pools and during our stay they were not overly crowded.
I would not classify the bedrooms as "luxurious", although they were clean and quite adequate. The bed was most comfortable and the linens were fresh and relatively new. Our bathroom appeared recently renovated, and was quite nice, very clean and adequately sized as well.
Good meals in the restaurant, which also provides a super view. Don't miss the breakfasts.

Stayed here on a tip from a local from Three Finger Jacks Salon after arriving in town and not finding anywhere else to stay. Other than the price I must say that it was a very pleasant surprise. Although a tiny bit dated, it fits well into the luxury rustic category theme lodge. The room was very comfortable and clean, the grounds are immaculately cared for, and although we did not take part in all the activities there would be no shortage of things to keep one busy sun up to sun down.

Room Tip: Gardner Building second floor has great views

It's an 8+ mile drive up the mountain from downtown Winthrop so once you're up there you don't really want to drive back and forth much. Good news is that there is plenty to do around the property: hiking, bike trails, horse riding, lounge by pools - I've only stayed during summer months so cannot speak to a stay in winter.

I've stayed in both the Gardner Guest Room and the Mt. Robinson Guest Room sections, which are buildings adjacent to the main lodge. The Gardner rooms are a bit smaller, but with fabulous views, patio/balcony and a sofa that converts for an extra body (tight fit in one room I would think) Mt. Robinson rooms are more spacious with jetted soaking tubs that look onto the views as well with slightly larger patio/balcony (no sofa bed).

Typical to Northwest, this is a 5-star property but has a casual, homier feel to it. But, the grounds, rooms, and restaurant are all 5-star and I'll be staying again.

Mon - Thurs breakfast is included and it's a full-blown delicious breakfast.

The hotel is delightful - it is luxurious but understated and very appropriate to its western setting. The views from pretty much all the rooms are fabulous, particularly from the dining rooms and bar at sunset. The activities are enough to keep even the keenest busy for at least a week (there's great hiking from your front door, horseback riding, two swimming pools and a lake, boating, golf...). The activities centre staff are incredibly helpful and the horseback riding staff were also fab when we did a private ride with them. I would recommend the hotel for couples and the cabins for families (because of space and value for money). The hotel rooms were lovely and romantic. We stopped briefly on our hike at the cabins and they looked like the perfect place for kids to run around and play freely, whilst parents relaxed. I would go back again tomorrow if I could! I also had a massage whilst I was there (from Bev in the Spa), it was a fab and she was a very interesting lady telling me all about the local area.

My husband and I have been coming to Sun Mountain for over 4 yrs now. We try to go at least once a year to enjoy a weekend to ourselves and just relax. We live less than an hr away, but it is a great getaway on top of a mountain with spectacular views, plush accomodations, and first class service. The rooms are on the spendy side, but they usually have some sort of special where you can get a great deal on a lovely room. The lodge and the rooms are just amazing. There are game rooms to play around at, a beautiful restaurant and more casual bar and grill that serves awesome cocktails, and the hottubs with awesome views are wonderful. We always see lots of deer and birds from our balconies. My favorite room to get are the Mt. Gardner rooms, with their rustic stone fireplaces and log frame furniture. The Mt Robinson rooms have a jacuzzi tub and vaulted ceilings, but the rooms have a more modern feel and I like the more cozy feel of the Gardner rooms. I love how there are no t.v's but there are cd players for music. There used to be a sweet cat that would always come visit us at our room when we stayed, and I always loved to have her welcome us, but sadly she dissappeared, probably due to the remote location and the wildlife that lives up there. This place is romantic for just a couple and also has enough entertainment for a family as well. You wont be dissappointed if you stay here.

My husband and I stayed here by chance when his motorcycle broke down in the neighbouring town last year. When we came back the following week to pick it up, we decided to stay overnight and it was probably one of the best decisions we made. We got a discounted rate since we arrived late and because it was so dark, we had no idea what the resort looked from our hotel room. We got a beautiful king bed suite that was quite large and surprisingly had no TV. I actually enjoyed that there was no distraction in our room so we just cracked open a bottle of wine and hung out.

In the morning, when we woke up, the view from our room was unbelievable. We went to the restuarant for breakfast and again, the view was just amazing. The set up in the restaurant is done in such a way that every table in the place had an uninterupted view of the mountains.

We walked around the property and just enjoyed the fresh air and scenery. I would definitely come back again!

It's on top of a mountain - with no one else around - made us feel 'very special'.
The lodge is stunning, with little patios tucked away in every available space.
The grounds are relaxing, nice pool and hot tub with ENORMOUS VIEWS.
Our food was 'group catered' - very good. We were met by the 'Manager' and all of the staff were very accommodating. We were only scheduled for one night but
wished we could stay longer. The deer came out to greet us in the morning!!
Our rooms were 'special'. We want to go back!!!
