Husband and I had a great time! We were in the Mt. Robinson room, AWESOME King size bed, fantastic VIEW and best of ALL a jacuzzi tub with a view!! The staff was great!! We decided on Sun Mountain Lodge to get away from the city life, looking for a quite place AND WE FOUND IT!!! We did the cowboy dinner, riding a horse 40 minutes to the Homestead was a great adventure (first time on a horse) and dinner was BBQ steak or chicken and it was perfect!!!. The dining room had great food but must say a bit pricey to eat there (in my opinion) every night your there. The wolf creek bar had great food as well, and at half the price. Jocelyn in the bar provided GREAT service, always upbeat and ready to serve you, even after a 10 hour shift! We were sad to hear that she wouldn't be there for our last day. The only negative thing that we ran into was our first breakfast there and our waiter was NOT friendly, I ordered fruit, crossant and yogurt, I assumed that the yogurt was one flavor and he brought out Peach flavor (I don't like peach) so I chose not eat it, the next day I learned (from another waitress) that we had choices for the yogurt REALLY?????.. With that said, if the yogurt and the server we had at one meal in 4 days was the only thing bad then you know it was a great trip!!!!
We will certainly be back, would love to come up that was for winter!!! See you soon Sun Mountain Lodge!...
**** One request, the money that people spend on the Mt.Robinson rooms you might rethink about the bottle of wine that is in the room at check in and have it in there for FREE!!!!****
**** Nice touch to have music playing in the room as we enter and a nice hand written note****

Just had another great mini-vaca at Sun Mountain Lodge. I was there years ago and decided to give myself a treat by staying in one of the Mt. Robison rooms. The hotel is top notch. Everything is spotlessly cleaned. Trust me I looked.
I remember the restaurant serving better food. We ate at the Wolf Creek Grill for dinner and the main dining room for breakfast. It tasted good but I just remember it as outstanding in earlier times. The staff was disconnected yet courteous but it seems that customer service personnel are like that all over Winthrop, especially at the end of the summer season. Great stay but eat in town if you can.

Room Tip: If you can splurge the Gardner and Robinson rooms have awesome views and balconies.

We planned a mid-July long weekend in Washington State's North Cascades to return to Bend from Seattle. After researching various lodgings, we treated ourselves to Sun Mountain Lodge--and what a treat it was! We were pretty lucky to get one of their 90+ rooms, and got a nice 3 night package for the Gardner room in a separate (but close) building next to the main lodge. It was a luxurious yet lodgey-comfortable suite: VERY comfortable bed, private patio with sweeping views of the valley, all linens and products high end, very clean, nice bathroom. We loved the sitting area with fireplace, and they had a lovely classical music station on the stereo when we entered. There are no TVs in the rooms (there are in bar), but we didn't miss it. Wi-fi worked fine. Our included breakfast in the Lodge dining room was DELICIOUS--great menu, great coffee, great service. We thought of going in to the western themed main street of the little town of Winthrop for dinner (we did go there for lunch) but ate all 3 nights at the Wolf Creek Bar --had everything from pizza, to apps, to pasta and it was all delicious and reasonably priced. They are known for their wine list, and we had some great reds, and also loved the local Lost River pinot gris (we went to the tasting room in Winthrop and bought some). We would suggest that they offer more variety on their wines by the glass list. We also thought the main restaurant was quite spendy and a bit gourmet for our tastes, but we were happy in the Bar. The views on the deck were spectacular and it was very peaceful to sit there and drink it all in and watch the sunset. Our one critique would be that they spruce up that deck area (tables, decor, sweeping), even opening up the views here and there by trimming down some trees by the deck...
A plus is the nearness of the North Cascades National Park. We drove just 30 minutes west and checked out the magnificent views at the Washington Pass Overlook (a paved accessible path), AND the Rainy Lake trail (also paved)--about a one hour walk to a beautiful hidden lake. En route to the Lodge we kayaked on Diablo Lake, and we even played a fun 9 holes on the Bear Creek course outside of Winthrop.
Over all, from calling to make the rev to checkout, it was a GREAT experience at the Sun Mountain Lodge and Winthrop area and we for sure want to return!

Room Tip: Inquire about package deals for multi-nights and including breakfast.

We drove through the Cascades coming from Canada wine region into Seattle. This was a beautiful stop along the way. A beautiful resort, lovely room with a back deck over looking the mountains. We hiked along a trail in the morning and had a deer and her two fawns visit us early in the morning. The lodge was quiet and peaceful. Two pools and wonderful lodge. No TVs is fantastic!! Worth the visit - especially with a coupon from the local school fundraising.

We stayed at the Sun Mountain Resort first Weekend of August 2012. The rooms were overpriced as for one night they charged around $385.00... The first room we stayed, they had to relocate us as the aircondition system wasnt working and it was miserably hot... They moved us to another room that was quite nice, but too not worth the price... If this is a business trip for you the cell service is sketchy... You must go outside the Lodge and try to find cell service.... Some how they have blocked the cell service and you can't get calls or use the phone in the restaurant. Which maybe is good, because you don't get interrupted by cell phone's ringing... but thought I would give you advanced warning.... The real irritation came when we checked in and they wanted to hold another $200 on my card.... Most hotels do this, so please always check in about their policies... I asked them about how long the hold would be and she pointed at the sign on the counter that said "Debit Card Holders please note, your bank account will hold an amount for maybe over a week". "We do not determine this length, its up to your bank" That really was inaccurate information and I told them so" I called my bank and put them on Speaker phone and asked them if this was true" They said absolutely not...... The Sun Mountain Lodge is the one that determines the hold period not us..." The check in lady face got red and I knew that was inaccurate... I refused to give her my card and offered her cash and she declined... So at that point she wanted us out of there and told us to go ahead and stay.... Please those who read this do not let them do this to you.... Always call your bank and get accurate information.... The restaurant staff was very unfriendly and they acted like it was an imposition to serve you... I asked one of the crabby waitstaff if she was having a bad day and she responded "I have morning sickness and don't feel like smiling"... Save your money go somewhere friendly....

Room Tip: Always asks questions about the credit card length of time they say the will hold your deposit and b...

Thank you for your review: I was pleased we are able to relocate you so quickly to another room with functioning air conditioning - the room were first assigned has a repaired system now. Cell service is a bit spotty in this quiet part of the world which for many is part of the allure. No, we have not discovered a way to block cell phone signal into the dining room! I am sorry you fell afoul of the debit card dilema we all seem to face. We (Sun Mountain Lodge) do not and cannot hold your funds, only the bank can do this - a good safeguard for debit card users. I'm sorry you found my wait staff crabby - I could not help but notice your other restaurant reviews held the same theme. Our dining room supervisor is pregnant and as she mentioned to you she was returning from from the rest room suffering from morning sickness. I'm afraid it was not a happy moment for her but she did recover nicely and was able to continue her shift without any further episodes. She is by nature a very pleasant young lady and I am certain this is all but behind her.

From the moment we pulled up to Sun Mountain Lodge, my husband and I knew we were in for something special. The staff was super friendly and helpful, the grounds were beautifully kept, the food was delicious and our stay was really amazing. We stayed in the Gardner building and found it difficult to ever want to the leave the room. The views from the balcony were breathtaking, the hot tub was perfectly situated and the bed was so comfortable. When we did pull ourselves away from room, we truly enjoyed the hiking trails that surrounded the lodge and the pool/hot tub area. We were so glad we splurged b/c it was a memorable stay!

We booked at the last minute and were told all that was available was a building apart from the main lodge. It was great and we will return. Patio led to grassy area with view of valley below. Pool was just up the hill with hot tub there. Less noise than the main hotel pool.

Room Tip: Level one of two story building have patios on the grass.
