“Wine and Horses”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

This was our second trip to Cherrywood. Loved it the first time and loved it even more the second. Pepper and Terry are such gracious hosts. I love sleeping in the Teepee. it was so relaxing and comfortable. Grilling Steak, drinking wine, sitting by the fire pit afterwards with Smores, good friends and conversation. My kind of trip. The outhouse assigned to us was the cleanest and nicest smelling I have ever been in. The open air shower was clean and the water was warm (yes it is private). If you are allergic to dust, need a jacuzzi tub, or need to be waitedon hand and foot, don't go. This is a working orchard and ranch. If you want a great time, exquisite breakfast and friendly but non-intrusive hosts, you will not be disappointed.

We also did the horseback riding to the wineries. Twice. That should say it all. The horses were great, considering they have to put up with us greenhorns on a weekly basis, they are very well behaved and wonderful animals. This is one of my favorite weekends.

If you are planning a trip through the wine country or apple orchards of the Yakima or Columbia River Valley, you will regret not staying here.

There is too much to say in a short review, but here are the highlights:
1. A private well appointed teepee that has almost all the amenities that you could want, including a comfortable bed, fridge, outdoor grill for s'mores packages that come with the room and a private and squeaky clean outhouse.
2. Outdoor but private warm water showers.
3. Views of the valley and Mount Adams from the door of your teepee.
4. Terrific home cooked but exceptional cuisine.
5. The owners are two of the most genuine and gracious owners one could ask for.

If you think you might enjoy this, you will. Check out the pictures - they speak fro themselves. What a great getaway for a small group of friends or a couple. Do NOT pass this up if you are in the area!

Room Tip: Ask for the Lone Star teepee - its a bit separated from the others for more privacy.

My wife and I went to Cherry Wood for our Anniversary. We had the best time and fell in love with the BB&B and the beautiful Yakima/Zillah orchards and wineries. The Teepees were so much fun, and full scale luxury beds/furniture. Very spacious. The money was well worth it, b/c they thought of all the little things (S'more fixings, ear plugs, firewood and matches, robes, etc), and all profits go to rescuing horses. There is no plumbing in the Teepees, but it didn't take away from it one bit. The outdoor showers under the stars, and outdoor sink were fun. Everything was super romantic, fun and chill. We also did the horse back wine tour. Our first times on horses, and they were super easy and fun. Pepper and her staff were very friendly and easy to talk to. They make you feel right at home. And of course, breakfast was 5 stars too. They will cater to any food needs you have. We were sad to leave and want to take all our family/friends back.

My two daughters and I went for a girls 3 day getaway. My youngest daughter had been before and loved it. I have traveled all over the world and have not enjoyed any trip more. Pepper and her daughter Tiffany are true horsewomen. They walk the talk of treating animals with respect, understanding, and kindness. Their horses and dogs show the results of that treatment. The horseback riding was great and so was the wine. That same respect, kindness, and attention to detail goes to everyone that comes to Cherry Wood B&B. Pepper is an amazing cook and typically I am not a breakfast eater! There was not a morsel of food left on my plate! I will go back next year.

At first glance I thought Cherry Wood Bed and Breakfast looked like a very nice place to stay and do the hourseback riding trip. However, this was not the case. From the very beginning Pepper was quite rude to us; our teepee was not ready when we got there, we brought food to cook however the refrigerator was not cold at all, and she kept telling us to hurry even though we were 45 minutes early! She made us do some sort of a hand test to tell which horse would be suitable to us, this actually seemed very insulting/judgemental especially for those people who good the smaller/weaker horses. I know this is some sort of a refugee for horses, however I wouldnt say the horses are the best taken care of or are the best for the riders, you need to have some knowledge of horseback riding. In general, the fact that she kept on repeating that the reason why the horseback tour is so expensive is because some of the money goes to the upkeep of the horses, seemed rather odd to me. What she failed to tell you is that some of the wineries you attend are actually owned by her family, seems pretty scammy to me. Anyways, the riding of the horses was fun, i wouldnt say the owners made this overly enjoyable but the concept of being on a horse was fun. The worst part to me, was the actually wineries that went to. Firstly, I have never seen such small tastings from wineries before. Secondly, you have to PAY at the wineries. Therefore, not only is the horseback ride $250, but you need to add around $30 on top of that to cover the cost of the wineries + whatever wine that buy. As well, the wineries that you go to are super low quality, at the first winery I could barely swallow the tiny tasting (in the place not one person bought any wine). The second winery (which her family owns), is decent (however SUPER expensive, i believe $35 for the cheapest bottle). The final winery we went to the quality of wine was not great but they did a cool food pairing and the price was cheaper. Finally, she talks about this wonderful "gourmet" lunch that you will get, this was probably the most disgusting meal i had, slightly old lettuce with chicken and mayo (yuck!), and a cookie. When i opened the box, i was starving but didnt really want to eat any of this!

As for the teepee, the teepee and the grounds were pretty nice. However, the owner Pepper and the rest of the crew basically desert you at the horseback grounds and go into their house. They do not ask if you need anything, they are just gone. The wine we got they took into their house, so i awkwardly had to ring their doorbell to get what i had bought so i could have some for dinner. As well, the supplies the gave us were meager, not enough to actually cook dinner. As well, they do not provide what they promise; no flashlight (had to use cellphone), little wood, nothing else. The breakfast was yummy that they gave us.

Overall: I enjoyed driving around to the good wineries in the area and tasting as opposed to the whole horseback riding trip. Once the novelty of the horsebackt ride wore off, it was just a crappy trip. Just bring your car to taste the wineries, and go horseback riding somewhere else. The teepee was cool, but make sure you bring EVERYTHING you need as if you were camping.

....and we used to live in the Cayman Islands! We loved the rescued horses, the teepees, the breakfast and lunch. Everything was top notch and perfect. We found Pepper and her husband to be friendly and kind. This was a wonderful, wonderful experience for us. If you like shopping on 5th Avenue, this is not your kind of place. If you like real people and a beautiful western experience, you will never forget it. PS. There is one horrible review below. I heard second hand that a certain person screamed at the winery owners and hit a horse and had to be driven home because of her dangerous behavior - just saying.......

Room Tip: Lone star teepee if you want privacy.
