Owner description: Travel back in time to when a night at the movies was still affordable and fun: this 300 seat Depression-era movie house features sofa seating (only 3) and a super tub of popcorn with real butter for $4. A real mom and pop theater. On the West Virginia Historic Theater Trail. In 2013, the Star went digital!

As a Kid I Saw the Original "The Thing" @ the Star Theatre ! ! ! I've Recently Moved Back to the Region (Hedgesville) and It's a Joy to Not Only Have Taken My Kids to the Theatre, But My Grandkids - Yep, That's the Original Popcorn Machine ! ! ! Great Fun - All Should Experience This Bit of History ! ! !

Where else can you pay $3.75 for a movie and $2.75 for a medium popcorn? An old cash register and a popcorn maker from the 1940s add to the experience. The nicest people own and run the theatre and love to chat about the theatre. A must do.

I don't care what movie is playing - do not miss a chance to go to the Star Movie Theater. They play one movie - once on Friday and once on Saturday night in this depression era movie theater.

A lot hasn't changed - they still use the old popcorn machine (which makes the best popcorn ever. Seriously.) and red leather seats. However, some of the old seats were too broken to fix, so the owners replaced them with couch. So for fifty cents extra, you can get an whole couch to yourself. And yes, it is SO worth it.

So. For abut $4 for a ticket, $2 for popcorn, $1 for a soda and $1.50 for Snowcaps, you can enjoy a current (few weeks past first run) movie. Make time. You won't regret it.

The movie was good ~ especially for the low cost of the ticket ~ but I doubt that many people go to The Star JUST for the movie. It's the ambience, the charm, the sense of community that it all evokes. You can't buy that in those big warehouse movie cineplexes. You can see films there, but you don't meet your neighbors there. The Star is a picture show palace, albeit a bit worn around the edges, and I will be back, often, hoping that my patronage will keep places like it alive for many years to come.
