My husband's family reunion is held every year in one of the outdoor pavilions. Ceiling fans help with the heat. Paddle boats are a fun cheap way to spend some time with family paddling and not just sitting!

I'm a fan of Cacapon. I found it back in 1999, driving home to DC after visiting family in Michigan. I was too tired to keep driving, and for $50/night, it was a bargain. If you don't need a five star hotel and find the 1950s charming, this is your place. It's not plush by any means - the beds are flimsy, the bathrooms basic - but it covers all your needs, is on a gorgeous setting (convenient to Berkeley Springs) and is utterly charming. I've been going back every year for at least one night near the new year so I can sit in front of the lodge fire with my laptop and write. The basement has a game room - with shuffleboard, pool and (I think!) air hockey. It's not glamorous, but it's a great getaway for people who think a 1950s lodge is a pretty chill place.

After visiting the Berkeley Springs State Park on 10.28.2013, we proceeded to visit the Cacapon State Park which is about 9-10 miles away along Route 522.

We saw the lake, golf courses, cottages, hiking/biking trails, etc as we drove to the Cacapon State Park. Except for the red pick-up truck that was in front of us, we did not see anyone during our visit.

Based on the signage at the Overlook, we were able to identify the mountains and States in front of us: Maryland and Pennsylvania on the left side and West Virginia plus Virginia on the right side. The bright colors of the leaves of the trees are beautiful sights as well.

This Park must be teeming with visitors during Summer where one can participate in several activities such as swimming, hiking, biking, playing golf, etc. Next time we visit this park, we plan to rent a cottage and spend a night or two there.

As it was, we felt so peaceful, quiet and refreshed where there was no body else around us, except Mother Nature. Happy travel!

Nice grounds, lodging excellent for state park, food was very good. There is plenty to do and the upkeep is excellent, clean. Staff is helpful and acommodating, especially the staff in the restaurant. Would highly recommend and Berkley Springs is only 10 miles from park and interesting to visit too.

We came in off season so weren't able to enjoy the lake for swimming, but we hiked one of the trails (Ridge Trail), ate in the lodge restaurant, and played a round of golf. The park is very clean, well maintained, and the park personnel were very friendly and helpful. Looks like a great place for a summer vacation, especially with family.
