A group of 7 of us went here for dinner on a Thursday night. The place was crowded but we only had to wait a few minutes. The menu was varied and interesting, with many dishes that we'd never heard of, so it took awhile to make up our minds. My husband and I had regular Fish & Chips, which was batter fried cod with french fries. They also offered a Celtic Fish & Chips with salmon and a different kind of potato chip. Everyone seemed to enjoy what they'd ordered, and the portions were quite large. The restaurant is within walking distance of the Wingate Hotel, where we were staying, which was nice. Would definitely return when in the area.

Overall we had a good experience. We went there after my daughters graduation from Alderson Broaddus University on May 10. We had a party of 6 and we were accommodated quickly. I believe this is a new restaurant, not open for too long (maybe only a couple weeks when we visited). I would visit again if I was in the area to see if it is better. I think it would be a great place to grab a beer and appetizer for games, etc. Decor is modern, comfortable and inviting. A word of caution that the concrete floors are extremely slippery even when dry (your chair may slide out from under you if not careful as it happened twice to my son and the tables slide easily) so be on the look out for spills. They have an ok selection of beers and I would say prices are reasonable for everything (except the shepards pie).

The food was hit or miss. The wings were great! The mussels were lacking as they didn't have a ton of flavor and no broth to soak the bread in. (Also, sorry to say that 7-8 of the mussels were not cooked fully - actually raw and 2-3 didn't even open) The pretzel was good. The menu is lacking any kind of vegetarian options except for plain salad, chips, fries, or pretzel (though we were told the chef is likes vegetarian foods and is working on veggie choices). To bad when we asked, they could not modify anything on the menu (or create something) for the vegetarian in our family. The cobb salad was nice, but the steak on the steak salad was dry and over cooked. The kids mac and cheese was not appreciated by my 7 year old (did not like the bread crumbs and it had a lot of garlic and not too cheesy) but my older daughter (22 years old) liked it. The sheppards pie was recommended by Mikayla our server, but the portion was small for the $16 price and it was fairly uneventful in taste and presentation.

Service was ok. Our server was friendly and efficient. One item was not accurate, but she caught is as the food was being brought out and fixed it quickly. My only issue is that there was no attempt to sell or offer a dessert. We would have probably purchased 3 or 4 for the table if offered, instead we went to Dairy Queen on the way to the hotel. Missed revenue for the restaurant and it affected her tip because her check was lower. It did seem like there were 2 or 3 greeters just standing at the greeter stand and we had a good view as we were the table right behind the greeter stand. As a F&B manager, I find this annoying as there is ALWAYS something that staff can be doing besides standing and talking to each other. There was one server behind us who seemed to be annoyed by her lack of being sat as she waited for her large party to arrive. I don't like to see servers pouty and visibly annoyed.

I think the restaurant has great upside if they get some consistency in the food and monitor service.
