“Pretty Nice”
Reviewed 28 July 2011

This hotel was a pretty nice newer hotel. Our room had a view of the horse track which was lovely. The front desk staff was just okay. We had an issue ordering a movie and called the front desk. We were supposed to get a call back when the issue was resolved after 90 minutes we called back and the issue hadn't even been addressed. That was frustrating. Also, the ice machine on our floor broke on our second day there.
Otherwise, I would stay at this hotel again and recommend it to others, I was expecting a lot less considering where it was located but was pleasently surprised.
Loved the fact that they had shuttle service to the casino.

Room Tip: Get a room that has a view of the race track

The Inn at Charles Town is the best. So pretty on the inside, staff was absolutely wonderful, the breakfast is more than just your bagel and dougnuts, the room was great! Very comfortable beds and spacious bathroom. I would most definately being staying there again. I took my ma for a night of play time and i know how she is so i got a room so we could stay and she could enjoy herself and we really did. I have traveled to CharlesTown on several occasion and never got the opportunity to stay but I think from here on out that is the way to go. They also have a 24hr shuttle to and from the casino which is ever 10 mins. You can also walk to the sheetz for those who go to Charlestown often you already know about the Sheetz :o).

Room Tip: Get a comp card at the Casino to help you earn points towards room and food.

My wife and I recently spent a night here as part of a comp package for Hollywood Casino. We were very pleasantly surprised by how nice the hotel is. It is modern, well appointed (with gym, internet cafe (free), guest laundry and free WIFI) and very clean. The lobbly was rather large, with plenty of seating for watching the TVs, reading the newspaper or relaxing. Our room was spacious and had all of the amenities expected - coffee maker in the room, big flat screen TV and nice big bathroom, in addition to a very comfortable bed. The complimentary breakfast was good and the shuttle to the casino ran 24 hrs. a day, every 10-15 minutes. It seemed like we never waited more than 5 minutes or so for the shuttle either going to or coming from the casino. The staff were friendly and responsive to our questions and requests.

We took advantage of The Inn's promo -- a King or 2-Queen bed room plus two Epic Buffet dinners at Charles Town Races & Slots (now Hollywood Casino) -- for $129 during the week. With taxes it came to $148.00. Still when you factor in $58 for two buffet dinners, it's a decent rate for what you get. Oh yeah, we purposely went on Tuesday to enjoy the King Crab Leg buffet and they were delicious!

Our room was clean, quiet (faced the hotel entrance not the race track), up-to-date and overall comfortable. The huge steam shower in the "Deluxe" room was a plus. The only evidence of needed maintenance were stains just outside the elevator on the 2nd floor.

Breakfast was fairly typical of a mid-priced hotel. In addition to the usual coffee, tea, bagels, cereal, juices, etc., there was a choice of scrambled eggs or scrambled eggs with cheese, ham steaks, and biscuits & gravy. The dining area was spotless, the staff extremely attentive to keeping it so. There was an outside area at the long side of the racetrack opposite the casino. It was very nice to enjoy the weather, indulge in a nice breakfast, and watch the horses go by being exercised.

Parking was more than ample. We opted to use the shuttle, a newer very clean vehicle that, as we were cheerfully told by the front desk staff, ran about every 15 minutes.

Unfortunately, there are some people who just can't be pleased no matter how hard an establishment tries. We witnessed one such unreasonable elderly couple seemingly purposely ignoring a pleasant staffer trying to satisfy their complaint. But all in all we were very satisfied with our experience at The Inn and will definitely stay there in the future.

Room Tip: Odd no. rooms are quiet, even nos. face the track

After staying int his hotel a second time, I can honestly say, it was as good as the first time. Check-in was smooth and fast, with no problems. The room was exactly the price they agreed upon. The staff were friendly and courteous, and the breakfast of sausage gravy, eggs, cheese eggs, ham,and many other items were fresh, hot and delicious. The room I asked for with a view of the racetrack was delivered, as promised. Everything and everyone, from the shuttle bus drivers, to the cleaning staff, greeted us with "have a great day", or"good morning". A little bit on the pricey side, but considering the alternatives, worth it. Clean, neat rooms, hallways, comfortable beds , and many, many perks. I have nothing but good things to say about this hotel, and it's personnel.

Room Tip: simply ask for what you want.

We booked a Jr. suite (2 queen beds + sofa bed) and brought the written confirmation w/ us. Upon check in we were informed that room was already taken and that we could have a king bed + sofa bed and that was all that was available. The # of people in our party required the queen beds +sofa bed thus the reason for the reservation.

We asked to speak w/ the manager who was extremely rude and could have cared less about their policies or our situation.....even though it was thier error. He offered to bring in a roll away bed and that was it- period. After the conversation escalated and he became very unprofessional we left the motel and took our business elsewhere.

We found other arrangements and they also had a shuttle to the casino/races. I cold never recommend a business who treats their customers the way this manager treated us. Stay away from this place!!

Room Tip: Go to another establishment!

The front Desk Staff (regardless of the hour) were incredibly rude, incompetent, and unprofessional. . The room rate confirmed by phone reservation ($91.68, with tax and AAA discount, for 2 nights) was not honored. Upon check in (after an 8 hr drive) the Check In Clerk informed us the first night was $99plus change; the 2nd night $115 plus change AND taxes. When confronted with our reserved rate, the clerk responded "Yeah, I can do that"; and then made our rate $94.70 including tax, for both nights - still an increase of $6.04 over the confirmed rate when the reservation was made. Immediately upon check-in our VISA was charged $210.68 (a fact I found when calling our Visa because of the confusion of the rates upon check-in) - a difference of $21.28 which a staff member told us was for "incidentals" - an illogical amount for incidentals by anyone's standard. When the staff was pressed to explain this charge, as well as the increased rate upon check-in vs our confirmed phone reservation rate, we were told "it is common practice for room rates to change without notice". We replied, "we're quite certain you can not arbitrarily change rates without prior notice". Our comment was ignored. When we learned of impending inclement weather, we requested late checkout (as promised as an option during making the reservation). Though well within the time limit of a late checkout, we were told "you have 20 minutes to leave". Disgusted by the lack of professionalism and respect expected as a customer of any establishment, we immediately left.
As we gambled through the night till 10am the next morning, we can't comment on any amenities as we didn't even sleep or shower. We can however comment on the "Breakfast Buffet" - which was adequate, though I've never come across a pancake that could not be cut with either a fork or knife. The room itself was acceptable, and the proximity of the casino (with a shuttle - which we were told ran every 5 minutes but found it was closer to 15 minutes) was a bonus. However, based solely on the treatment received by ALL behind the front desk, we intend never to return to The Inn at Charles Town.
We have written a letter to the attention of a Ms. Gavin, whose name is associated with this hotel at the Jefferson Cty, WV Chamber of Commerce website. We felt the "comment/suggestion" cards within the hotel would simply be a waste of time as surely it would have been tossed aside and ignored - as were the guest themselves, while face to face with the staff.
Hopefully, our suggestions on training those at the front desk with more interpersonal skills when dealing with patrons of their Inn as well as the casino, will prove beneficial and the Inn at Charles Town can truly become a top-notch lodging attached to a casino as many would expect it to be.
