Staff very helpful, mall with restaurants just across the street. The capitol is gold domed and the museum next door is a must. The hotel has three elevators for 16 floors so no looong waits like in some places.

Room Tip: ask for upgrade in rooms. Wifi and breakfast are free for Marriott elite members. They have a concei...

This is a downtown Marriott. As such, it should be, and is, a reliably good place to stay. The rooms here are nice and comfortable. We got a wonderful room rate of under $100 a night. The temperature control worked well, and the large TV was fine. One thing I never understand, is that the "lower" level Marriotts, like Courtyards, and Fairfield Inns, generally cost less and provide more. I understand that a downtown hotel may have to charge for parking, wifi, and that a business hotel may not want to provide a free breakfast. But can't they have a safe in the room, or a little refrigerator to keep water bottles cold?

Beyond those things, the people at the front desk here were fantastic. They were very helpful and offered to do extra things, like give us shuttle rides to restaurants and attractions, without any prompting. When a problem did arise (more about that later) they responded and apologized and awarded us extra Marriott points.

Now the problem. The restaurant there leaves much to be desired. We were there on a holiday weekend (Labor Day), and they we're short staffed. I turned out that most things in Charleston were closed. But that really does not explain the difficulties we had trying to get breakfast. We had a group of three couples, and when we went into restaurant, there were a few people eating, but no staff visible. We sat at the only table that would fit six, and waited. And waited. After about 10 to 15 minutes, I finally got the attention of someone to get them to bring us coffee. It was another 10 or 15 minutes until we got to order, and even more time until they brought silverware for some of the people. In the end, it was over a hour from the time we sat down until we got our breakfast. All in all, it was an hour and a half to get and eat breakfast. There is something wrong with that.

To be honest, the Front desk people were very apologetic about all of this, and each of our three couples got an extra 500 Marriott points for our trouble, but I would rather have had breakfast in a timely fashion.

All that said, this is a nice Marriott property, and I would stay there again should I return to Charleston. It is very convenient to things in the city, and the availability of the shuttle makes it even better.

I have stayed at this Marriott several times over the years while traveling to Charleston,WV for business. Overall a nice property within easy walking distance to shopping and restaurants. My room was clean and very quiet (8th floor, end of hallway). Breakfast at the on site restaurant was good, but not noteworthy. On the negative side - This Marriott charges for internet access even for Reward members. Additionally, the computers in the business center were unable to print my US Airways boarding pass, but the very nice front desk clerk offered to do so and I was able to print for my flight.

Room Tip: High rooms are usually my first choice, but at this Marriott there are wireless wi-fi issues above t...

The internet is pay, ten dollars a day for basic and thirteen for a decent connection. We travel often and we're rewards members, so we picked Marriott when we passed through. We have never been at a Marriott without internet since having internet in hotel rooms became a thing. This is especially upsetting because we chose Marriott over another local hotel, which does have included internet and was ten dollars cheaper, because the national rewards program is good. It's a disappointment. I would not recommend this hotel if you're here for business or intend to use your computer.

Your feedback is truly appreciated and I thank you for taking the time to share your comments with us. I understand your concerns with internet fees which is a full service Marriott brand standard, but we do have brands like Courtyard, Fairfield Inn, Residence Inn and others that do provide free internet. Thank you again and we look forward to serving you as are guest again in the near future..

The hotel wasn't great by no means. Rooms were older, dirty and the beds where somewhat comfy. The worst thing was the morning of check out the fire alarm kept going off, that kinda put a damper on my business calls I was needing to make. Also no breakfast.

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with feedback regarding your stay.

On behalf of the hotel we want to apologize that our fire alarm system caused such an inconvenience during your stay. The safety and security of our guest is the most important aspect of our business. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet all your expectations with your room and visit. It is our goal to provide service and experience that rivals our competitors, though it is clear we have room for growth.

Although we do have a full breakfast buffet available on the weekends in our Brick Salt Bar+Kitchen available to our guest, we also offer room rates that do include that breakfast for future visits to Charleston. If you give us another opportunity to make things right I will be more than happy to have you as my guest for breakfast.

Again thank you for your feedback.

Large room which was nice so you didn't have to dance around a partner to get from one part of the room to another. The amenities of the room were pretty much Mariott standard. Good size desk to work at which was nice as this was a business trip. Resturant served great food at a reasonable price.

This is the second conference my organization has had at this facility. I cannot say enough good things about this Marriott. First, it is very clean. From the sleeping rooms to the restaurant and the conference rooms. The staff go above and beyond to rectify the few issues we had immediately. They were easy to find. The front desk is also very helpful and cooperative. The maid service in the rooms also does a great job. This hotel worked with us in planning and were able to adapt to to changes for us. I highly recommend this hotel to any conventions. The location directly across the street from the mall make eating choices and shopping easy without requiring a car. And I believe they have an airport shuttle. You can't go wrong here.
