Owner description: Opened in the summer of 2003, the Clay Center strives to present a variety of arts and sciences all under one roof. The Avampato Discovery Museum is two floors of fascinating interactive science exhibits, while the ElectricSky™ Theater features planetarium shows. In addition there are a large performance hall and a small black-box theater, an art museum, a fun museum shop, and a cafe. There's something interesting scheduled virtually every night here!

My children, boys ages 9 and 11, and I were in Charleston while my husband was attending a seminar,so we visited the Clay Center. Even though the clerk at the front was less than friendly, the rest of the staff were very accommodating. We loved the Earth City and gizmo galleries and had fun in the Health Royale show. We wish there had been more interactive sections of the museum. The planetarium show and dinosaur film were good and we enjoyed the small art gallery. All in all, the museum took about 4 and a half hours to go through, including the planetarium show and movie. Food at the cafe was good as well.

This is a beautiful arts center. There is a very large children's museum - good for children 3-12. There is also an art museum and an IMAX & other theaters. If you love art &/or have young children, you should check it out.
