Booked this hotel based on Trip Advisor recommendations. Driving up my wife had concerns and was already on guard. Its an old brick school house with a little sign that says Country River Inn. Inside was very pleasant however and the rooms were very clean and comfortable. We wanted to stay off the beaten path and avoid the package hotels on our adventure vacation to the New river Gorge. Beds were comfortable, bathrooms clean, small refrigerator, cable and I believe a small microwave. Rick and Lois run this as a bed and breakfast and there are only 6 rooms but they are very hospitable and Rick was there for breakfast every morning and I really enjoyed chatting with him. They made sausage, eggs and biscuits every morning (except one) and they have a very friendly and very clean dog named Polly that we enjoyed. The pool and hot tub are small but again very clean and after a day of hiking or rafting the hot tub was a great place to relax. Not for those that want fancy amenities but a great place to experience the area and meet new people (the owners). Close to Cantrell Rafting and 2 miles from Fayetteville where there are some nice little restaurants. I'd stay there again.

Room Tip: Only saw one and it was on the side closest to the road but there was no noise.

My husband and I went to Fayetteville for a one-night stay to go white water rafting for our 22nd anniversary. There are not very many places to stay in the area if you don't want to camp, but I was thrilled to find this little haven. We arrived mid-day on Thursday for check-in. We were greeted almost immediately by our hostess. She quickly checked us in and then asked what our plans were and if we needed any help locating places. She gave us great directions to our white water rafting location. They provide a sheet of local restaurants with an overview of what each one offers. They even give you their opinion of what is good. We unfortunately didn't choose one of their food options and so had only mediocre barbque at Old Hickory. Since it was our anniversary, they gave us the honeymoon suite. This suite was quite large with two queen size beds. Everything was very neat and clean. If I had any issues with the room, it would only be that there was only a shower, no tub... but that really wasn't an issue.

They asked what our schedule was for the next day and upon finding out we had to be at our rafting local at 8:00 a.m. stated that they would have breakfast waiting for us at 7:30 the next morning. True to her word, a delicious homemade breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, biscuits, coffee and juice were ready shortly after we arrived in the dining room.

I appreciate their kindness and hospitality. My only regret is we were only able to stay one night.

My family stayed one night and the hosts were very friendly. The decor is pretty plain but the beds are pretty comfortable! The rooms are very large with nice bathrooms. Every place there is very clean - a nice feeling. The inn is easy to find and convenient to many outdoor options in the gorge. We needed to leave early the next morning and the hosts made sure we had breakfast options before we left.

We stayed one night with friends in late June. Rooms were large and very clean. Rick was a great host and very accomodating in every way. Breakfast was good and filling. I would eagerly recommend the Country River Inn.

The name "Country River Inn" brings visions of a quaint log cabin nestled among trees and perched next to a beautiful river; the reality is that the name is a bit misleading. The "inn" is really a re-purposed school just outside of downtown Fayetteville. But don't get me wrong, this place does not have the sterile locker-flanked halls of your awkward adolescence. Rather, it's a comfortable way station for relaxing on the deck by the pool or Jacuzzi before retiring to the most clean and comfortable "classroom" you've ever slept in.

The owners of this re-purposed school were friendly and flexible when we arrived after our estimated check-in time, and again when we spent a morning hiking and requested a late check-out (~2PM). Our well-equipped "classroom" was on the second floor (#4) and included a microwave and mini-fridge. The complimentary breakfast passed the grade with scrambled eggs, 2 sausage links, a hash brown patty, a biscuit, as well as orange juice and watermelon; definitely above and beyond continental style expectations. Overall, this will be the most comfortable and friendly school experience you've ever had.

If you're looking for a convenient launch pad for exploring Fayetteville and the New River Gorge, this is the only place I can recommend in the area!

Just finished a stay at the Country River Inn. Counldn't be happier. Great value for the money. The place was clean, clean clean. Very close to all attractions. We went hiking, great views of the New River Gorge. Any questions you have about the area are easily answered by the owners. I'd stay again. There's a pool and a hot tub. Rooms are quiet.

The Country River Inn was a great place for us to stay to see the New River gorge. The inn is charming, immaculately clean, quiet and comfortable. Rick and Lois are great hosts who make you feel right at home and we very much enjoyed talking with them about the history and sites in the area. Polly, their dog, was a delight as she greeted us from our return from hiking and biking each day with such excitement. The location is great - just minutes from the many trails with beautiful views of the gorge, close to the restaurants downtown and close to the whitewater rafting. I would highly recommend this inn for anyone traveling to Fayetteville, WV. If we return to the area, we will definitely return to the Country River Inn!
