I love the Opera House - the acoustics are awesome and they bring in some great talent, then charge a very small price for what you are getting. It is a beautiful facility too. The community is so lucky to have it and all the dedicated volunters who make it all happen.

Over the years, I have seen John McCutcheon there 4-5 times, never paying more than $7.00, the Avett Brothers for $5.00 and many other great acts.

Saw "Why Do Fools Fall in Love?" 1960's musical. The 4 ladies did a phenomenal job and everyone in the audience was singing and having a great time. Don't go expecting plush seating and amazing sets it is a small town and small production but they did a great job and would go again to see another show. 8.00 dollars per person is great for a quality production.

Saw a blugrass band here one night. It was no big deal.

Our family, which includes two younger children, were staying right outside of Marlington since we were biking the Greenbrier Trail. Upon exploring Marlington we saw an advetisement for a group doing a benefit for Mountain Top Removal awareness and we decided to go to the Pocahontas County Opera House and see what this revitalized theater was about. The performance had an early staring time of 7:30 p.m. and children under 12 were free - both of which make it so much more feasible for a family to go. Ticket costs for this show were a little higher than usual because it was a benefit, but admission is very reasonable, usually $7.00.

Performing were Yim Yames, Ben Sollle and Daniel Martin Moore, Kentuckians who are doing a series of concerts called "Appalachian Voices" to promote awareness of the environmental and sociological impact of mountaintop removal in the appalachian region. The music was excellant and the theater was filled with a large turn-out of all ages. Being from out of town, it was an enjoyable experience to feel a part of the community and hear great music with a worthwhile message. The theater is very attractive and comfortable with a casual tone and regularly scheduled events of traveling and local musicians are planned. What a great thing for this town and the people visiting! We plan on keeping a visit to the Opera House in mind when we come to the area for outdoor recreation and may even schedule a trip around a particular concert in the future. I recommend a visit to hear some great music and find another worthwhile adventure in Pocohontas County.
