Sloshing through flooded downtown streets following a significant storm, we were actually headed someplace else, but the word "brewing" caught our eye and we stumbled in. A Friday night, a big ball game, and a welcome to match! The place was busy, so we took a seat at the bar, feeling right at home beside faculty and students from WVU. The friendly bartender offered cute little tasting glasses and a welcoming smile. The "Eighty Shilling" was an excellent choice for him, as was the Alpha Blonde for her. Following the example of the couple beside us we ordered the beer fries as we waited for a table: more-ish! Called to our table, we ordered a "beefalo burger".The best thing was that we found we had stumbled into Auction Night! All manner of - presumably- donated items such as Patagonia clothing were up for grabs, and the selling, led by a real live auctioneer who appeared to know everyone there, was fast and enthralling, with a "green" agenda to the fundraising. There was a genuine community feeling here, and after a long drive we found ourselves energized and involved. It's what our daughter in the Highlands of Scotland would call "good craic"!
