“Sad Snakes”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 December 2013

You walk into the cavernous registration lobby with overstuffed furniture and a fireplace; however, the undecorated antiseptic white walls make for more of a hospital atmosphere. No one sits in the big lobby even with the fire in the fireplace. Lobby does not invite a "sit-down." It is over lit, and echos. Upside: The rooms in the newer section near the front desk registration are larger than most hotel rooms. But again, the white boring walls. Small TV. View of parking lot. Beds are 4-star comfort as is room cleanliness, aside from that typical low standard synthetic bed cover. Creative decor is absent throughout lodge. Restaurant offers good food, slightly overpriced. Wait staff is quick and friendly. Lovely display of quality Carnival Glass in dining area. Enjoyed the antique rifle display. The worst part of our lodge stay: The neglect of the Nature Center located on the premises, lower level. Snake vivariums filled with feces, snakes raise and lower their heads struggling for the mental challenge of a stimulating log to climb. Turtles swim in stagnant green water in an under sized tank. Their is a difference between living and thriving. Not sure we will return to this WV lodge. Though clean and fairly priced, Twin Falls does not offer the warm and cozy feel of the grand old lodge and we felt empty when we left.

Room Tip: Rooms near lobby are quiet at night but not so much during the morning when hallway doors open and s...

We really enjoyed our two night stay at the lodge in Twin Fall State Park. Our room was very clean and appeared that we may have been some of the first people who had stayed in it. The park has many activities throughout the year and we were there for the Annual Lumberjackin’ Bluegrassin’ Jamboree. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The only con that we could find was the restaurant in the lodge. It is the only restaurant around for the lodge guests unless they want to drive a considerable distance and it was always busy. The food was decent and the wait staff friendly but the service was chaotic. They were turning people away because there were no available tables but there was no organization to bus the tables and speed the serving process along. One night the restaurant was hosting a group for a birthday party that took up a good quarter of the restaurant. A banquet room for groups like that would be more efficient. Note- If your cell phone provider is Verizon, expect not to have service at the lodge.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the "new" wing

I completed a three night stay in one of the cabins, while attending a Conference. Positives - Beautiful lodge, absolutely delicious food and exceptional food service!
Negatives - The cabins are horribly outdated and should be an embarrassment to your park. First of all, our reservation (which was made well in advance), was for a three bedroom cabin. Upon check-in, we were assigned a two bedroom cabin. Nobody at check in seemed to consider this an issue. I even provided a copy of the e-mail confirmation. The clerk made a copy of it? There was no attempt to try to find another cabin. To here credit, she did supply us with coffee, soap, shampoo, towels, etc., as our cabin had none of these items. When we went to the cabin, it had not been cleaned. Towels on floor, toilet not flushed, trash in cans. The cabin smelled of must. Exterior structures (decks, porches) are of extremely poor quality. We tried to change to the lodge, but no rooms were available. We eventually traded cabins with another group to get a four bedroom cabin. This cabin was better. However, there were some glaring deficiencies in the cabin. At least one location in one of the bedrooms was missing a receptacle cover, the TV is very outdated and reception was poor. The only things that can improve these cabins is to demo, and start over. Very old, outdated, and not taken care of! All in all, I find it embarrassing to Twin Falls and the State of WV

Room Tip: Stay at the Lodge, and ask for a room in the new section.

While attending a funeral, because of our large family, we booked both a lodge room and a cabin. The lodge room was very comfortable, overlooked a pretty courtyard, and was clean and well-appointed for the money. The two bedroom cabin, on the other hand, was very dirty. My mother actually purchased bathroom cleaner and cleaned the shower prior to using it and my children's socks were black after being there only an hour. The windows had newspaper over the wooden sash and the glass was filthy. We stayed in the large, three bedroom cabin two years ago, and it was much nicer and was very clean. I would give it a try again, but would shy away from the two bedroom cabins. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: If booking a cabin, the largest cabin is the newest. If staying in the lodge, ask for a courtyard v...

Excellent Stay! While attending a funeral choices were very limited so we decided to give it a try and my entire family (a lot of us) stayed here... Staff, food, pricing were all excellent. My family loved the serenity of the area and peacefulness it provided. Rooms in the new lodge were very comfortable everything you need is right there. You could spend a wonderful vacation at this lodge and not even leave the grounds -- abundant wild life, pioneer farm to explore... plenty of activities - outdoor pool, indoor pool, dinning, room service etc etc the list goes on. It is a little off the beaten path about 45 min off of 77 north however it is so worth the visit. Abundance of hiking trails We just loved it! We plan on spending a week there next summer.

Room Tip: Stay in the new lodge -- rooms on the back have a wonderful view of the woods and wild life. Private...

Setting: Gorgeous. Main Inn: Beautiful. Staff in Restaurant: Very nice. Wine: Excellent. Food: okay. Front Desk Staff: could be nicer. Room: meh. We stayed in a ground floor room in the older section of the hotel. Unfortunately that was all that was available when we made reservations. The room was small and the bed was pushed up against the sliding glass door, making it difficult for whoever was stuck on that side of the bed to get in and out. Bathroom: ew! The bathroom was completely infested with millipedes/centipedes/worms? not really sure what they were. Started out with 2, by the next morning, there were probably 50. Looked like they were coming up through the cracks in the floor tile. We washed a bunch down the shower drain. When I told the person at the desk, her response was. "Well, we really can't do much about them. The bathroom is moist and they like that environment." Really? Ever heard of an exterminator? Ever heard of caulk? Made for a disappointing ending to an otherwise lovely weekend. My suggestion would be to book a room in the new wing, only. They are off the ground floor. The indoor pool was unfortunately closed during our stay, although it looked very nice through the window. Other than that, the setting was beautiful. Lots of deer everywhere. The old pioneer farm was idyllic.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the new wing only.

My boyfriend and I loved everything about this lodge. Friendly staff, clean rooms and pool. Delicious food at the restaurant and great prices. A little far out in the woods but perfect for nature lovers like us. We saw over 5 deer a night driving in. Right next to a golf course, rec center, play ground and more. Beautiful view from our room too. A must stay anytime we are in the area.
