A little place on the main street of town that has the same feeling of the Lowe Hotel. The Iron Gate has cold beer and very good food. The prices are very fare, with great deals of the day.

First experience at this location. Must admit that found it by just walking down the street. This would be a place I would return based on atmosphere and quality of food. The fish and chips were great for lunch. I am looking forward to returning to try other options.

Point Pleasant is a bit of an empty, quite city, but we wanted to eat something non-fast food between going to the River Museum and the Mothman Museum, and this was pretty much the only restaurant to be had. Luckily, the food was delicious and pretty cheap, and the environment was lovely. We were the only people there, but the hostess/waitress and the bar manager were both wonderfully polite and attentive.
It was very affordable for us, though the man at the River Museum did say that it was "a little pricey", so it may be less affordable for local people. :-/

We had dinner here, filet was excellent. The restaurant is beautiful, lots of pictures. Staff there was great, they really took care of us. Can't wait to go back. Loved it!

We ate dinner here three of the four nights we were in Point Pleasant, and three enjoyable dinners they were. The restaurant is old and not particularly appealing from the street, but we have learned many times over not to judge an eating place by that. We were promptly greeted and seated by Kelly, who turned out to be a great waitress as well as source of camaraderie. She took our drink order and was back with it in very short order, leaving us to scan the menus. When I motioned to her for a refill, she complied quickly and asked whether we were ready to order. I told her that I was going to step outside for a cigarette and then would decide in a few minutes. “Well” said she. “How would you like to move out to our patio section?” We took her up on that immediately and were led out through the restaurant to an area of lush lawn and a series of gazebos. She then brought a loaf of wonderfully warm soft bread with an unidentifiable but perfectly matched glaze. We ordered dinner and enjoyed the pleasant evening for the time it took for dinner to arrive. I had ordered the prime rib, which turned out to a poor decision. Mrs Too was completely satisfied with her meal.

The following night we returned. On the short walk of two small blocks, we encountered a couple returning from their dinner who stopped and thanked us profusely for suggesting it to them earlier. We were greeted again by Kelly who led us directly back outdoors and seated us. This time I ordered the smaller filet mignon which was grilled precisely to my liking and an excellent cut of tenderloin. I took some pictures, than asked, and was granted, permission to take some of the interior. On our way back to the Lowe Hotel, where were staying, we decided on the spot to go back again for the third time. There was absolutely no question about it.

On our third visit, a Saturday evening, the place was abuzz. A hostess approached, and we asked for a table outdoors, and for Kelly, if possible. In just a few minutes Kelly appeared with a friendly “Hi, guys”. She remembered our bar order and ducked back inside. In short, this meal went as enjoyably as the prior two, and we asked whether the restaurant was open on Sunday. She replied that it was not. We expressed our disappointment, and asked for suggestions. We learned that her brother was kitchen manager at Pancho’s a Tex-Mex spot we had seen in our travels around town. We thanked her for everything, promised that we would see her if we returned (which, we subsequently decided, we will next July when we attend the West Virginia Strawberry Festival), and again headed for the hotel sated, charmed, and sleepy.

Including everything, our dinner checks came to $64, $86, and $57, depending mostly on how thirsty I was, and in no case was a dessert included. Thursday and Saturday we walked off our dinner and drove to the DQ for a blizzard. Friday we were simply stuffed, as Mrs Too had filled up on the Mothman Special. Good food, comfy surroundings, and pleasant conversation. What more could a vacationer want?

I should point out that the photo at the heading for this site is not the Grille, but Iron Gate Fine Dining, actually a party and banquet facilityacross the campus from the restaurant and open only for such events.
