We stayed in unit 308, a one bedroom suite for 3 nights. The unit was in excellent repair, no problems at all. It was quiet (perhaps because it was summer?). The entire unit was very clean. No problems whatsoever. We were very satisfied. Our room had a beautiful Western view from which we enjoyed the awesome sunsets.

Room Tip: We enjoyed having a view to the west to enjoy the sunset over the mountains.

Our rental #216 at The Rimfire Lodge at Snowshoe was a studio unit. One queen bed with a pullout sleeper sofa. The beds were comfortable and the unit was quiet and adequate size-wise. However there appeared to be some deferred maintenance and thus the average review. We noticed frayed carpet in several areas which also looked soiled in spots. A few minor issues in the bathroom as well.

The outside deck was a nice size and offered partial views of both the valley and of the Village Center. The wood wall surrounding the deck was in dire need of painting. The buildings interior corridors were fine but not particularly well lit. However, the property seemed safe and secure with only owners and guests allowed inside.

The location of Rimfire is top notch. Right on the Village Square and within walking distance to everything Snowshoe has to offer. Rimfire even has an attached Starbucks, keeping you out of the elements while we get our overpriced caffeine fix.

We would visit Snowshoe again, but would probably opt for a newer building on the Village Square.

One other observation. . .bring a heavy jacket. Temperature got down to 49 degrees. . .on August 1.

We are not "winter" people but when a groupon for Snoeshow resort popped up, we decided to try something different for Memorial Day weekend. Our justification being, "well hey, there's a beach!"

The views were amazing, the amount of stuff that they had for us to do were amazing. The food at the different restaurants we tried- amazing.

The most impressive thing of all for me though was the staff. I wish I knew the names of all of them! All of the staff that we encountered seem to either love their job, love the people that come to their job, or both.

Check in- The lady that helped us at check in was friendly, happy and informative as this was the first time that we had ever been there. She let us check in early because our room was ready and made suggestions, while keeping it semi-quick and to the point so she could help others as well.

South Mountain Grille- The gentleman that helped served us made amazing suggestions on the menu such as the cottage cheese bisque, the stuffed mushrooms, and the tuna rolls. We got all of that and we were not disappointed. Our children got the kid's steak and it was cooked to perfection, and the perfect texture and flavor. He fully admitted he was a grape man when we asked about the beers, but still had the knowledge of the beers flavors and the beer selection.

Shaver's Lake and Beach- There were two ladies here that were so super helpful. The pointed us in all the right directions, helped us understand the rules, "can we carry drinks around with us?" etc. The encouraged our girls with their swimming (especially since the lake was not yet warm as it was too early in the season.) They even found an infant life jacket so we could all go paddle-boating together.

Rock climbing and eurobungy- There was a gentleman and a lady (both scared of heights :) working the rock climbing wall. One of our children did easy, then medium, then hard, then very hard. She rang the bell on all walls except very hard. The gentleman then encouraged her, all 15 times she tried again and again to get up the very hard wall and even climbed up the wall next to her to help her get it. Our younger one is not a fan of heights. She would make it halfway up the easy wall and give up everytime, not because she couldn't, but because she would see how high she was and start to shake and want to get down. She decided to attempt again because the gentleman went up next to her on another wall to help. He also told her it was only 18 feet. When she rang the bell he let her know that she just conquered her fear and actually went 30 feet. The lady working the wall was outgoing, friendly, encouraging, showed us the bathrooms when requested and told us about other activities they do throughout the summer.

The rooms were clean as well. All in all a surprisingly fun and all around nice trip for us. The only down side was the mattresses were not all that comfortable (both on the bed and the sofa bed) and the route the GPS took us on up and down the mountain was a little much for both our ears and our tummies (and my husband's heart- he's scared of heights)

Tid bit: We don't normally write reviews, our experience compelled us to.

Room Tip: Rooms with kitchens (bring your own groceries- the "provisions" store is overpriced) suppl...

It was close to everything in the village and was great to park and unload in the parking garage without being exposed to the weather. The hot-tubs were fabulous, gas fireplaces in the rooms were cozy and walking downstairs into Starbucks was incredibly convenient. The mountain lodge feel of the room was perfect for the location and the views of the village side, and the mountain views on the other side of the building were both great. We've stayed everywhere on the mountain and this is by far our favorite place to stay.

We stayed on the first floor facing the parking lot a few steps down from Starbucks. The unit was clean, updated , convenient and relatively quiet (compared to units facing the village). It could be hit or miss depending on the unit, but we lucked out with ours. Flat screen TVs and comfy new sleep sofa for the kids.

I stayed at Rimfire twice, most recently the weekend of March 21, 2014, both times in a "Deluxe studio" room. The room is a good size, with full open kitchen. The furniture is a bit outdated (cabin style) and the carpet a bit dirty, but the the room in general is well maintained (fresh painting). The room had a fireplace, flat screen TV, and complimentary Internet. (Be aware, there is a wire provided; it is not wireless. So make sure you have a laptop as the wire does not work with tablets). The fireplace is really nice and helpful for drying your ski equipment over night.
I also like the convenience of having Starbucks in the building and also two Jacuzzi tubs (outdoors, in the Rimfire health center). There are lockers provided to store the skis/snowboard over night. The building is nicely located in the center of the Village central, close to everything. A small inconvenient, however, it is not adjacent but a very short walk (50 feet) to the slope.
Overall, I like the place; I will probably stay there again. It is better quality than Expedition Station (where I also stayed once).

Snowshoe the resort: The good... Beautiful, cozy, fun. The bad... The main shared pool.. missing tiles, mold, rotting wood, missing concrete, dark (4 of 6 main lights out, speaking to the attendant, they have been out for months and months and a few for over a year). The Big Top.. the big empty space.. 50% of attractions didn't work, don't waste your time.

The Snow Tube park... well we got there early and while our room was getting ready we went over the the Tubing Park and even though we had checked in they wanted us to pay $10 parking fee.. or we could drive back to the village, park in that area for free and ride the bus back.. now mind you the parking lot was half empty and it was 2pm so it was a total loss for Snowshoe as we just left and went back to get our room.

Rooms 151 & 152, 1st Floor.
Rimfire Lodge: The bad. Dark dirty poorly lit halls and garage, one whirlpool broken, no towels for the other whirlpool, no fire in lobby 4x days.

The Rooms: could hear and see into adjoining rooms, no wifi (must use neither cable) slow connection. Loud, Loud, Loud units...All night grinding, scraping, engine roaring from main street. Main access to the village resulted in a lot of foot traffic and loud talking, yelling. I would think they would want to sound proof these units. Being a corner unit, the wind was hitting from both sides and was very loud, even blowing out the pilot light on the gas fireplace.

Roads were kept in very good shape during very bad snow/ice weather.. I would drive up there in a any car.

Overall had a good trip, but would spend the money to go out West given the option.

Bottom line: Showshoe Resort: Spend the money to keep up the common areas, replace the Big Top with a ice rink (winter) roller rink (summer) or shut it down. Fix the common pools and hot tubs. And get some employees that are empowered to look beyond the parking fee of $10 and get a family of 4 to the tubing where they will spend $100... I expect more from Interwest. Interwest Snowshoe

Room Tip: Get a room on the Village side if your not slope side.. If you have to get a room near the main stre...
