Friendly welcome. Was in the good size twin room above the kitchen overlooking the front as travelling with my daughter. We had a good walk along the river before dinner. An excellent meal with many items locally sourced. Superb beef. Fantastic cheese board. Terrific service for the evening meal then again from the breakfast staff. Everything spot-on. Pretty perfect. Highly recommended.

We've stayed at The Old Rectory each year for the last four years - and will be back again next year as well.
It is, without doubt, the best hotel in Norwich - and we've tried a few over time. It's difficult to know where to start, as the entire experience is made so special by Chris & Sally.
The Georgian house itself is beautiful and tranquil; the evening meals are superb (and its lovely to sit in the lounge, sipping a glass of wine and deliberating over the menu beforehand); the rooms are individual and welcoming, and Emma's breakfasts are to die for!
They have a happy knack of employing fantastic staff: we cannot praise Oot enough. Her radiant smile made breakfast even more enjoyable, nor Sam who served at table in the evening. And Emma's personality is as lovely as her breakfasts.
Overall, five stars is hardly enough. Se you next year!

Where do I start? This is such a lovely place to stay and definitely not your run of the mill hotel.
The couple who run it really do put their hearts and souls into it and fortunately have staff around them who are full of the same enthusiasm.
The meals were of a very high standard indeed. Breakfasts and dinners were both excellent although different people cooked them.
Don't go expecting to have a fridge, a magnifying mirror or even a lift. This is not part of a big chain with identical features wherever you stay. There is no bar. Drinks are served in the lounge. They have all the usual pre-dinner drinks guests might want and of course the owner himself serves you while you look at the dinner menu. We chatted with him and other guests and found a very pleasant "country house" atmosphere the whole time we were there.
We enjoyed the short walk to a nearby pub one evening where we sat in the sunny garden by the river, watching rowers and canoeists doing their best (not always successfully) to avoid the swans. We visited Norwich Cathedral, which is wonderful, and also watched the peregrine falcons that have nested there. Norwich proved to be a very good shopping centre too.
Obviously the Broads are a great attraction and we did as much sightseeing as we could during our stay.
Our deluxe room was on the first floor of the coach house, which involved a 2 minute walk from the hotel. It was well furnished with two windows, so bright and charming. But do beware of low beams if you are tall.
The bathroom was huge with a large bath and separate shower cubicle. Amazingly, we had towelling bathrobes in two sizes, large and small! I always grumble when hotels give us two identical robes both of which completely swamp me. At last someone has the common sense actually to offer a smaller one for female guests!! Brilliant!
There was another example of the attention to detail offered by the owners of this hotel. I casually mentioned that I had forgotten to bring the charger for my iPhone. I was immediately lent one!
I could go on and on, but I'll end by saying that I hope to find another reason to go to this part of the country just so that we can return to this unusual hotel.

I can totally recommend this hotel. The rooms were fantastic, as was the food.
The staff were so friendly and welcoming but totally professional.

If in Norwich, stay here. Buses very convenient to get to the centre of town

My husband and I got married a month ago and Chris and his crew did the most beautiful job of making our special day seamless. All of my family was coming in from the states, and Chris went above and beyond suggesting how to arrive into Norwich and liosioning their travel plans. He also made sure to put out gift baskets for our guests. Also they didnt mind the 100+ phone calls I made to him and his staff over the process of the wedding. They dealt with my bridezilla mentality so well. They also were more than accommodating for my mother who was running HOURS late getting of her room when they realised what a difficult trip it was for her.

Also the rooms are TOP notch and there are plenty of beautiful areas down stairs to meet and greet in groups. Many Americans find rooms in England to be too small for them and the beds to be too small however, this hotel delivers 110%. I have not had ONE complaint from my family the multiple times they have stayed here.

They love the hotel so much they refuse to stay with us in our new 3 bedroom house!!!
AND the food is INCREDIBLE one of the best places to eat in Norwich. Incredible job Chris. We can't say thank you enough for what a fantastic job you did for us.

Room Tip: Call up or email the hotel they will guide you through the pluses and minuses of each room.

We have just returned from a 5night break at The Old Rectory, which was a good centre from which to explore the beautiful countryside around. We received a warm and friendly welcome, and the service throughout from all members of staff was impeccable. Our room was spacious and pleasant, and the comfortable beds and quiet location ensured a good night's sleep. The star attraction, however, is the food which was excellent. A small but imaginative menu, changed every evening, using local produce, meant really delicious meals.and the breakfasts also give an excellent choice. A really relaxing and enjoyable stay - many thanks to the hardworking owners!

We stayed here for one night when the weather was fine and it was lovely. We were met by the owner on arrival and shown to our rooms which were in the coach house. The rooms were large, well furnished and had really large and comfortable beds. The books and choice of CDs were nice touches. As it was very warm we sat outside by the pool, which we were too timid to brave as it was in heated. This was a lovely oasis of calm and we had well priced and very good house champagne as we worked.
The meal (£28 for three courses) was excellent. The beef main was the highlight. Again the wine was very good. The staff were attentive and polite.
The breakfast in the morning was cooked to order and was also lovely.
This is a good hotel to get away from the hassles of work and relax. Yet it is only 2 miles from a fine city. Could not have chosen better for this occasion.

Room Tip: The coach house rooms were very nice.
