This restaurant, just off US 40 in Wheeling, is always hopping. It is a happy combination of good food and a friendly, energetic staff. We have been stopping here for over ten years and every visit has been a wonderful experience. From the cardiac specially (French fries covered in a one-of-a-kind brown gravey) to their extensive offering on the Mexican night menu, the Alpha is a treat to the senses. Because it is so popular, we call for reservations when we're about 50 mile out from Wheeling. If you're a first timer, it may also help to plug the address into your car's GPS. Finally, as noted in other reviews, the portions here tend to be on the large size, so consider sharing.

Our meals and drinks were well prepared and of good quality. The atmosphere was like a neighborhood restaurant - comfortable and not at all pretentious. Prices were quite reasonable.

On the evening we arrived, Wheeling appeared deserted -- apparently because everyone was at Ye Old Alpha! Good, friendly service. The owner got wind that we were visitors and pulled up a chair to extend his personal welcome. Extensive menu. My wife enjoyed gnocchi over pesto sauce, while I had an excellent sesame Ahi tuna with risotto and crisp French beans.

Everything was fantastic in the 2nd visit to Alpha. Service is outstanding and seems to get better all the time. Food portions are huge, more like gigantic. Brownie and ice-cream is too good but keep in mind you could feed a family of 10 with it and still have left-overs:)

Food was great! Service was excellent. Nothing fancy, but great local place to experience. Loved their authentic twist on some of the usual fare.
