“Expensive, but met our expectations”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 November 2011

We chose this hotel over the less expensive Hampton Inn across the street because the listed amenities included an indoor pool and hot tub (jacuzzi). However, the hot tub was out of service the entire weekend of our stay. This bummed us out because the Spring Hill Suites is the most expensive hotel in Wheeling so we paid a premium to be able to use the jacuzzi (over $50 more).

The website also indicated our room's bathroom would have a jetted tub and we'd receive complimentary bottled water. None of those were true. I asked the front desk and they told me water is $2 per bottle.

However, the room was clean and the staff was friendly. If you're staying here on business and someone else is footing the bill, this hotel is a great choice. Otherwise you're better off saving your money by staying at a less expensive place in the area. At $180 a night, including taxes, and a required 2 night minimum it's very steep for West Virginia.

Room Tip: Upper floors, odd numbers have a good view

My husband and I stayed at the Spring Hill Suites in Wheeling for our anniversary. We got the romance package. The room was a nice size and quite clean. It was even prepared with a chilled bottle of champagne when we arrived. But check in was to be a 3:00pm and they weren't ready for our room until 4:30 which was a little frustrating. The location is fantastic. It's right in the middle of everything. The breakfast was decent however it was a little cramped. There were several people eating in a small area and if you left your table, you lost it. Overall we had a wonderful stay. We would highly recommend this hotel to travelers.

Almost all the hotels on I-70 from Pennsylvania to Wheeling were full, so we ended up at the SpringHill Suites in Wheeling at 1am. It is a great hotel. The suites are spacious, very clean, and even include a small wetbar area complete with a kitchen towel. The only bad thing was that the beds were slightly hard, but I know some people like that. The breakfast was also very good; this hotel thought of providing many toppings for waffles, cereal, oatmeal, and eggs that most hotels do not provide. It was definately one of the best continental breakfasts I've seen at a hotel. Despite how nice the hotel is, I still believe it is overpriced for West Virginia. Maybe they increased the prices because of the late hour and limited availability of hotel rooms, but I would not pay that high of a price again. Maybe if I had more time to actually spend enjoying the hotel it would be almost worth the cost, but just for a quick overnight stay, it is too expensive.

The hotel is located on top of a hill so you have a great view of the city. It is conveniently located near restaurants, gas, and grocery stores, yet away from the interstate 70. The rooms were spacious and clean. They also have a hard wire Internet access - which is important to me given the number of viruses I've picked up from hotel unsecured wireless networks. The little gym (and I emphasize the term "little") is adequate for a day traveler. The microwave even had paper plates and plastic utensils for use. Very clean and with an attentive staff, I'd rate this hotel very high. I would come back.

Friends and I visited Wheeling and stayed here overnight. The staff was very friendly, the suite room gave us plenty of room, and very clean, great location. Free hot breakfast was included but we wanted to go to Panera for breakfast. I normally bid for hotels through Priceline and was unsuccessful in Wheeling, so decided on this suite hotel so we could just get one room. Paid pretty expensive rate for Wheeling, WV.

We've stayed at this hotel about a dozen times while visiting family in the area. Wheeling is short on hotels and aside from Ogelbay resort ($$$), it is probably the best bet going (though I've heard the Hampton has been renovated and is nice).

The price is a little high for what you get, probably because Wheeling doesn't have a lot of hotels. However, the rooms are always clean, the kids love the pool, and the breakfast has gotten a little better - now with scrambled eggs and bacon rather than those fake "egg patties" hotels of this class often serve. Also, the views of Wheeling College from some of the rooms are nice.

The hotel sits way up on a hill (a consideration in winter) but the location is good. It is near a Sheetz, Kroger, and CVS for the essentials. It is near I-70 and Oglebay, about midway between downtown and Elm Grove.

My only real complaint was during one stay (when our younger son was an infant) we were put across the hall from a bachelor party and the hotel staff would do nothing to quiet the noise which went on until about 4 am. That was a rough night and they did give us a huge discount, but I would've rather had a good night's sleep!

Room Tip: Consistently good experience

We loved it here, it is a short drive to the casino and the free breakfast is great in the morning. The rooms have a wet bar and a couch, great for relaxing before heading to the casino. Great weekend rates when the casino is sold out. Don't forget to bring your swim suit for the hot tub and pool!
