My bucket list has one checked off-I've always wanted to go to the Greenbrier. When husband had a business meeting here, away we went. It's as grand and gracious as I imagined. The service is amazing-almost overwhelming-everyone really does know your name, and uses it often. It is the place were all things floral-curtains, rugs, wall covering, wallpaper-go to live and die. The prices are a bit steep, and the 6.5% historical fund on top of the other taxes makes you shake your head. These folks know how to take care of you. I did the Bunker Tour as well-it was great.
A couple of things not so wonderful-I noticed that the light fixtures were dirty, and lights were burned out, not only in the room but around the facility. While the meals in the Main Dining room were superb, the dinner we had at the association dinner was not-dried salmon and petit filet. Did horseback riding, and the gal was right to upgrade me from a group ride to a 2 hr me-and-the-groom (Danny and Big Red were fabulous), it was also at $200 more for the privilege. Our room looked out on a roof area with no view (2197), but was comfortable and nicely appointed (and wallpapered with two different types of floral wallpaper to almost distraction), All in all, she's a grand dame that seems comfortable in her skin, and it was a privilege to be there.

Thank you for your humbling review. Your kind words for our staff members are greatly appreciated; we believe they are our greatest asset. We could accomplish nothing without the dedication of over 1800 team members. At The Greenbrier we believe that our first job everyday is to simply care about our guests and their enjoyment of the resort. We are honored that you found this to the case from the moment you arrived through the time of your departure. We hope to welcome you back to The Greenbrier for many years to come!

What a top line experience! Everything is heavenly, Check in was quick and pleasant, Room (ask for 313, a corner room) was gorgeous. Dinner in main dining room (yes, wearing the required tie) was delicious, and made more special by the jazz quartet; then, that was followed by a quartet of young pop singers in the forum. A classy touch and fun! And the spectacular grounds...! Now, if only it weren't raining, but I can't hold them responsible for that.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your stay! We are so happy to hear that you were able to enjoy our iconic Main Dining Room celebrating 101 years of continuous service. The Forum is like a comfortable Italian neighborhood nestled in Rome. The ambience and décor bring the best of Italy to life with traditional music and the savory aromas of Italian cuisine. We look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit!

Just leaving today. Good things , golf, waitress at prime 44, Bobbie at Sam Snead's. Nothing else was worth it. The tea is a joke. Service at pool restaurant very poor. The staff were helpless. We are so disappointed at our stay here. mr justice have your staff go to the grand hotel Michigan to learn what an afternoon tea is and most importantly how to give excellent service

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your recent visit. Of course, there is no excuse that I can offer for the lapses in service that you experienced. You are very gracious in your review and I wish I could be as gracious in offering explanations for atypical experience you describe as it relates to your service at the outdoor pool. I am at a lose for words to tell you how disappointing it was to read that we failed to live up to our 236 year reputation of service not once, but several times. We are currently discussing what we can do to improve our afternoon tea service. Of course, staffing levels, change of venue and items being offered are all being taken into consideration and we welcome your thoughts and comments to help us in this review process. We remain at your service and should you wish to contact me to discuss your stay I may be reached at 304-536-7830 or robert_mickey@greenbrier.com. On behalf of everyone at The Greenbrier, please accept our apologies for the disappointment that you shared.

As always, we had a great vacation. I have been coming here for years. However, they need to end the Historic Preservation Fee and resort fee and just add those amounts to the nightly hotel rate. Adding a nickel here and a dime there cheapens the Greenbrier experience. The gimmicks need to stop.

Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know about your recent stay. We are honored that overall you had a wonderful visit and enjoyed your stay with us. The Historic Preservation Fund (HPF) of 6.5% is collected to preserve and protect landscapes, buildings, and amenities that have played a meaningful role in The Greenbrier’s past while carefully planning the continuous improvement for the future. The Justice Family is dedicated to not only preserving The Greenbrier, but also to its continual improvement for the enjoyment of generations to come. While allowing us to accomplish these goals, the proceeds from this fund will also have an important economic, environmental, and educational impact on the resort, its surrounding communities, and the state of West Virginia. Our goal by being transparent with the HPF was to involve our guests and members in the importance of preserving The Greenbrier for future generations and to show our appreciation to you; knowing fully that we can not preserve The Greenbrier without your support. I apologize that we obviously did not accomplish this goal during your recent visit. Your goodwill and patronage is extremely important to us. We are hopeful that upon reflection you will agree with the absolute necessity of this fund and accept the appreciation of over 1800 members of Team Greenbrier and their families for your contribution to the continuation of The Greenbrier for many years to come. I am happy to speak with you further regarding this matter and can be reached at (304)-536-7830.

I don't understand the appeal of this place. The decor is hideous, the whole place feels old and dirty, and there wasn't anything to do or buy in the hotel that I couldn't easily find somewhere else (like in Lewisburg). "High tea" was disappointing. Rude woman at the entrance and the tea was mediocre. The man clearing the tables was very courteous, however. The guide for the bunker tour was good at her job, but history/government isn't interesting to me, so I wouldn't visit this place just to see the bunker. I didn't stay inside the hotel, so I can't give a review of the rooms. Overall, I wasn't impressed. I would rather stay at a budget motel in Lewisburg where I could walk around and visit the shops all day.

Carleton Varney; one of America's best known interior designers and the president/owner of Dorothy Draper & Company continues the grand style of Dorothy Draper at The Greenbrier. Dorothy Draper was a doyenne of interior design in the United States from the 1920's to the 1960's. The Varney design philosophy stresses…"the use of bright colors and the rejection of all that is impractical, uncomfortable and drab". In embracing this practice, he continues the tradition of Dorothy Draper, by being associated with the adventurous use of vibrant colors, floral patterns and bold contrasts. I am at a lose for words to tell you how disappointing it was to read that we failed to live up to our 101 year reputation of serving elegant afternoon teas at The Greenbrier and that we failed to exceed your expectations. Afternoon tea is complimentary to our overnight guests from 4:00pm to 4:45pm each day. We are glad that you enjoyed the tour of the cold war bunker, code named, Project Greek Island. What other resort or hotel can post of partnering with the U.S. government for almost forty years to provide the facilities and an operational plan to ensure the survival of our unique form of constitutional government? The bunker at The Greenbrier was the government’s plan for a response to the most dreaded nightmare of the 20th century, nuclear war. From 1962 to 1992 we stood ready to adapt to the direst set of circumstances imaginable and provide a critical emergency service to our nation’s leaders. We remain at your service and should you wish to contact me to discuss your day visit I may be reached at 304-536-7830 or robert_mickey@greenbrier.com.

A true Southern gem that immediately relaxes the soul. This place not only has history ('The Bunker', Presidents, and a bunch of America's 1st's), it has one of the most beautiful settings that you will find anywhere.

Get a cottage if you can and sit on the porch in a rocker for either that morning cup of coffee or evening wine. Make your reservations early with the restaurants so that you can get the time you want.

One of my favorite places. I can't wait to bring my kids here...

Enjoy.
