“A nature lover's paradise”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

The Ridges Sanctuary is a lovely nature preserve in Door County. The Nature Center at the beginning of the stroll is well-stocked, and staffed with friendly and knowledgeable people.

The trails are well-maintained, and quite easy to walk: there aren't any steep hills to huff-and-puff your way up. Evergreen trees, ferns, wildflowers, and an assortment of wildlife flourish. The self-guided tour booklet is one of the best I've seen: I learned a tremendous amount.

Do use bug repellent during mosquito season: they are fierce if you're unarmored.

“Educational, beautiful and very well presented”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

What a special place and very special folks who are taking care of it. The Ridges Sanctuary is a 1,600 acre pristine natural area located in Door County, WI.

The wonderful wooded walks on well marked paths, the boardwalk path taking you in-between the upper range light and the lower range light and to the beach, the wild flowers to enjoy and the birds you will see all make this place very special. Our group visited the visitor center first and were treated with a short very educational talk by a very nice gentleman telling us a lot about the ridges (what they are and how they were formed). The nice lady also at the visitors center was so helpful in giving us maps for the trails and they even had free bug spray for you to use .......how thoughtful. The items for sale were all top quality and interesting.

Most of our group walked between the range lights and down to the county beach. The two 12 year old boys in our group loved the freedom to run on the beach, find shells and try to skip rocks on the water.

For non members of the organization there is a modest $5 fee per person to hike the trails. And children under 18 hike free.

My only regret is that we did not have enough time to explore more of the Sanctuary but do hope to return to Door County someday to visit again.

“glorious walk for lazy days”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

see it through the seasons and do not forget the beach opposite. Guided walks will explain the area to you and what a great conservation area the ridges are.

“Wonderful for nature lovers”

Great way to spend 2-3 hours looking at plants of the area. We always come here at least once on our annual Door County retreat.

“Experiencing the wonder of the natural world”
Reviewed 15 May 2014

The Ridges is a wonderful nature preserve, with several miles of trails through an exceptionally biodiverse landscape. Wild orchids grow in profusion, along with many other beautiful wildflowers. The birding is terrific. For nature enthusiasts, it's hard to find a more interesting place. Great education programs, too, for both kids and adults.
