“Nice place, but why no signs for it off the road”

I was told how to get to the place and still drove by multiple times before seeing the dinky sign stating Pewit's Nest Gorge. You take CR-W by Walmart to the left and go a few miles and there it is. If you get to where the road dead-ends...you went to far. Just drive slow and look for a little parking area on the left side of the road

It took a little walk to get to the gorge, but it was very scenic and worth the trip. And best of all....it is FREE (except for the wasted gas driving around trying to find it!)

Aaron P. is correct in his April 2013 review. It's a lovely little park and is easy to find. Hiking here is not taxing but you do need to take care when hiking the upper trails. Conditions weren't wet or slippery when we hiked, however there are a number of tree roots located directly on the packed-dirt paths. I managed to take a spill over one of them. Fortunately the fall was AWAY from the rim and I only ended up having to dust myself and my camera off. If you have small children, hike the upper paths carefully. Some of these paths are quite close to the edge, and in some cases, the paths actually ARE the edges. No safety rails here. There are paths further back from the rim, but you won't be able to see the water below from those paths.

Our family went to the Baraboo area to camp and hike at Devils Lake, we ended up finding this hidden gem while on a car ride behind the Walmart in Baraboo.
This is a spring fed stream so the water was ice cold, but the day we went the temperatures were in the 90's and both my 8 and 12 year old kids thoroughly enjoyed swimming, wading and looking at all the frogs and fish in the water.

The water level varies greatly, but if you are not into wading or swimming anyhow, the hiking up on top shows the layers of rock so typical of this area.

It's not too far off the beaten path, take Hwy 12 west (at Walmart) and it will be on the left side of the road (you'll just see a gravel lot).

If your looking to get away from the crowds check this place out. It's secluded. There were a few people cliff jumping when we were there but the gorge is long and winding, walk around the bend and your alone again. Lots of shallow water for kids to play (the water is very cold). Great rock formations and little waterfalls.
