I stayed here two nights with my two children, aged 13 and 10. On arrival we received a very genuinely warm and friendly welcome from the owners who couldn't do enough for us. The facilities here are top class with a clean and well equipped kitchen, clean toilet and showers , a games room and large dining room as well as a play area for the kids. The Pods were lovely, we stayed in a standard pod which was cosy and comfortable for the 3 of us, any more would have been a squish. Elizabeth brought of beautiful fresh scones in the morning to start the day perfectly.

But facilities etc... are only half the story, Top of thee Rock has a lovely atmosphere you just can't measure. There is a peacefulness and honesty here situated as it is in the heart of the country rich in folklore and history. You'll find no trashy amusement parks or manufactured tourist traps. What you'll get is miles of very beautiful trails along river banks, glens , old mass tracks, close to ruined castles and ancient standing stones with an abundance of flora and wildlife. The kids just loved the walks, the little bridges, the stepping stones, seeing bats flying out of the ruined castle, watching the fish in the streams and then after miles of adventure bedding down exhausted at night in our pod. The kind of magical memories I hope they'll bring with them into adulthood.

We recently spent 2 nights (2 adults and two kids under 6) in the Pod Pairc. The sign posting all the way from Drimoleague was exceptional, at no point were you left wondering which way to turn, the hill up is quite steep and narrow in spots.

When we arrived we were immediately greeted by David and made to feel welcome and given a tour, the kids couldn't wait to go and explore. We were in the Sheepfold which is tucked away quietly in a corner of the site. It suited us perfectly for two smallies who were so exhausted by 8pm they fell into bed. The facilities building is right beside the sheepfold which was great for us for using wash and kitchen facilities. The kitchen area closes around 11pm and opens at 7am so for any night owls bring a flask for late night cuppa. We had a double futon, camp bed and our own air bed in our pod and there was still plenty of room for all the bags.

The facilities are exceptionally clean and well maintained. Lovely playground and incredibly safe for small kids to wander round! The animals were a huge attraction with feeding time being one of their favourites.

There is a good sized shop in the village for any supplies you may need. We got a recommendation of Willie Pa's on the road to Bantry for food and it was fabulous!

Fabulous freshly baked scones in the morning were available to buy in the kitchen. The laundry room had everything you could possibly need and a lovely area with books and toys upstairs for the kids. There was also wifi available in the main building which was so handy!

A big campfire ended the day with toasted marshmallows and exhausted kids and parents!!

Choice to cook your own meals on site or grab a meal from a restaurant in the village and bring it back.

David and Elizabeth were the perfect hosts and so helpful about things to see and do locally.

Room Tip: Sheepfold is a quiet private little nook with its own space and gate, perfect for small kids!!

We stayed for two nights, great for kids. Very safe all locked in, they could run around, play in the park all while in your sights from the decking in your pod. Facilities were very good. Kitchen very clean all you could need was there. Beautiful homemade scones, lovely personal touch . Some lovely walks close by. Great location to visit some of the near by towns. Skib, mizen head, barley cove, lough hyne.

I would highly recommend and have done so to family and friends already.

I'd been following the Wild Atlantic Way down the west side of Ireland and into Bantry in lovely West Cork. From there I found my way into Drimoleague. Following the signs on the well-marked route from town center, I worked my way up the hillside to Top of the Rock Pod Pairc owned by David and Elizabeth Ross. This is a small working farm in an idyllic location with marvelous little cabins, perfect for travelers, hikers and families.

Instead of "rooms" as you would find in a hostel or B&B, they have individual "pods" or small little structures ideal for inexpensive accommodations while you explore this gorgeous area of Ireland. (The area is known as the Walking Capital of Ireland, and Top of the Rock is known as the “Walkers’ Junction of West Cork.” ) (See pictures to best understand what a pod is)

David and Elizabeth are the perfect hosts - with hospitality a-plenty and a wonderful knowledge of the West Cork area. Looking for places to walk or visit - just ask. There are walks of all lengths with sights to suit anyone. Hiking books and maps are available to purchase in the guest center as well.

The guest center serves as a dining area upstairs as well as a reception area. Downstairs you'll find a game room with pool table and ping-pong table. There's a large laundry room as well as men's and women's shower facilities. A large kitchen with gas and electric stoves, refrigerator and freezer, await anyone who wants to prepare their own meals. WiFi is available in the activity center if you'd rather surf than walk.

There are various size pods available, so read the website's descriptions carefully. I stayed in a luxury sized pod and it was more space than I needed, but I loved the convenience of the sink and toilet. Stay for a day or a week, but don't miss the opportunity to try Top of the Rock.

Room Tip: Luxury pods offer en-suite toilets and hand washing sinks - all other pods use the faclities in the...

We stayed as a family of 5 in a family pod. It was really good but I would go for the larger one next time. We also brought 2 dogs, and had two dog pods. One dog slept in the car as she is not used to sleeping outside but that worked fine. Service and facilities are the best I have ever seen. Def my kind of glamping. Fab find, I have no doubt this will be a hugely, well deserved success for the Ross family .

We (2 adults and 2 children) stayed in the "Sheepfold" pod for two nights. The pod had a double bed and single bed and we got another small mattress for the smallest one - it fitted fine but I've no idea how they fit five adults in there!

The place was beautiful and the facilities couldn't be better. The kitchen was very well laid out with all you could possibly need.

We'll be back.

Room Tip: The "sheepfold" pod was lovely and quiet - I believe those in Wild Fruits were treated to...
