“Relaxing experience!”
Reviewed 5 September 2012

My wife and I went there for our second wedding anniversary. The hotel room was outdated, had a musty smell, and the bed wasn't very comfortable, but since we were only in there to sleep it wasn't awful. The restaurant more than made up for it....WOW was the food amazing...all food breakfast, lunch and dinner! The service was slow and not high quality, but being in NW Wisconsin we had expected this. The food was very resonably priced. We loved having a beach nearby and being able to rent a canoe. We also went golfing and the course was in great shape and was a very fun challenging course. If you are a golfer I would highly recommend this course. The service at the clubhouse was exceptional! This was our first time away from our baby so not having cell service was nerve racking, but when we had an emergency the course clubhouse let us use their phone so we were very thankful for that! Overall it was what we expected a fun and relaxing weekend of play on the lake and course.

Room Tip: I would recommend one of the villas or cabins. Unless you just want a room to sleep in don't exp...

We went to Lakewoods with pretty low expectations based on the reviews and were very pleased with our overall experience. If you're looking for a 5-star cabin with stainless appliances, vaulted ceilings and granite countertops, then maybe Lakewoods isn't for you, or perhaps they have cabins better than the one we stayed in (Bayview 655). What you'll get is a quiet, relaxing getaway in a beautful area of northern Wisconsin.

Lake Namakagon is a great lake for our needs - boating, skiing, tubing, swimming. Lakewoods has a nice sandy beach area for the kids to play. The Lakewoods marina was nice and the staff down there were very helpful and courteous as we brought our own boat. (Be sure to reserve a marina slip upon reservation, so you are assured of getting one).

The outdoor and indoor pools were both clean and nice to relax in. The outdoor pool looks newer and the facilities there are nice.

Our Bayview cabin was quaint and slightly dated, but very functional with updated lighting and cabinets. We had a charcoal grill, air conditioning, nice deck with screen porch, 2 bedrooms/2 bath, and furnished kitchen with standard appliances including a dishwasher.

The ONLY issue we encountered in the cabin was an occasional odor in one area by the sofa. The carpets basically need to be cleaned and I am sure the odor would be taken care of.

All in all, the lodge staff were helpful and answered questions, but they weren't overly friendly and seemed very busy at times or possibly short staffed.

We didn't eat in their restaurant. However, I would make a couple of recommendations for meals in the area. The Rivers Eatery in Cable has THE BEST pizza you will have. Highly recommended. Also, in Hayward The Anglers Bar and Grill is great food/service and The Angry Minnow has great beer as well (didn't get a chance to eat there, but it looked good.) West's Dairy in Hayward has excellent ice cream as well.

The only bad dining out experience was at the Sawmill Saloon a few miles from Cable. We walked in, no air conditioning, they had 2 people working. The one guy came and threw a couple menus on the table, didn't ask us what we wanted to drink. 10 minutes later, still no drink order. Our kids were tired so we ended up walking out.

All in all, a great trip to northern Wisconsin and will definitely go back to Lakewoods again.

Can I give "Zero Stars"? Run...don't walk away from this place.

My wife & I along with family and friends booked "cabins" and a condo at Lakewoods for our idyllic 'Up North' wedding accommodations. While our wedding was absolutely perfect (performed off-site), the accommodations and staff were less than acceptable. I wouldn't stay here again for free.....

The reservations for our wedding party were screwed up not once, not twice, but three times. The last time was after we checked in for the group and was told that yet another "computer error" would force us to switch rooms once again. The front desk staff was less than accommodating or sorry for the multiple mistakes, never taking ownership or apologizing for the mess-ups. Mind you, I'm standing there with my fiance, who's in tears because of their ineptitude. Again no apologies, just excuses. We finally get the cabins figured out, only to find them in horrible, and I mean HORRIBLE condition. Now I realize we didn't book the Four Seasons, but the carpet was very dirty and stained, the furniture looked like it was stolen from a Frat House in 1985, and the moldy/mildew smell was so thick that our housekeepers actually handed my two cans of Lysol to spray down the rooms.

Now that I think of it, the Housekeeping Staff was the only bright spot of this place. Both women apologized to me when they delivered the towels (which were missing), and said how sorry they were that we had such a bad experience at the front desk. Management could learn something from these ladies.

We just received the itemized receipt the other day and I noticed that the 'credit' they had promised for our trouble was missing....big shocker. They can keep the 120 bucks, I don't feel like hearing a million more excuses. Maybe they'll use the $$ to buy some paint or cleaning supplies, but I don't plan on visiting again to find out.

With so many resorts, lodges, and cabins available for rent in NW Wisconsin, surely you can find better than this, especially for the price.

Room Tip: Find a different resort!

Our family of 32 members was housed in the Golf Villas, others in condos. The accomodations were wonderful. Everyone was well satisfied and comfortable. Our young people had a blast!
They swam, fished, kayaked, paddleboarded and bonded.

Room Tip: The rooms in the golf villas were spacious and comfortable. We would definitely recommend a vacation...

I would like to start with a positive note. We stayed at Lakewoods for one night to enjoy a banquet at their facility. The banquet was the very nice and the food was delicious. We did have breakfast in dining room and the service and food was good. The room that we stayed in was not good especially for what we paid. We walked into the room which is out dated and put the suitcase on the bed and it fell off the frame. The heating/cooling unit was blasting cold air. We tried many times to get it to the heater. We did talk to management and they said to get it to change to the heater they had to throw a breaker. The ice machine was filthy and luckily we only used the ice to chill our drinks and because there was dirt in the bottom of the ice bucket when the ice had melted.
The room was located near the pool and hot tub and the sound just resonated into the room. Luckily the people enjoying the pool and hot tub did not stay there late. The heating unit which ran all night sounded like a running mack truck. Needless to say we did not sleep well. The room just needs cleaned and updated. Even the lampshade was stained. (How does a lampshade get stained??)

Everyone at the lodge was quite friendly but their customer service needs to step up to the the twenty first century. My husband left his phone there. We called to have it sent to us and they said the only way they could send it was COD. There was no problem taking my credit card for my room but they couldn't take my cc to have our phone shipped overnight or even put in a flat rate box to ship. Really?? It has been a week and the phone has still not arrived and I called to find out about it and it was mailed 5 days after I called because their postage machine was down. Seriously!!

I would not reccommend this to a friend. I encourage the owners and management to get the place cleaned up and take a look at customer service.

We rented the Namekagon Shores property for a family get-together in early March. Our group consisted of 14 adults and 3 small children. The 7 bedrooms, 7 1/2 bathrooms, the large living room, kitchen, and dining room suited our group perfectly. We shared responsibility for meals, but enjoyed Friday night fish fry at the lodge. While some were snowmobiling, others enjoyed the lodge pool or quiet time at the house. It was a fabulous weekend and will probably become an annual event. Thanks to the staff for making sure the house was clean and very well-equipped for our family celebration.
