My brother's family raves about Shaffer's, so I was looking forward to staying there. There are two motel buildings; the east side (closer to the pool) is the newer of the two, & has bigger showers. Dad & I were on the west side. The room was clean, but age & spotty maintenance were evident. The a.c. was old & hard to regulate, Sunday I couldn't get hot water in the shower until nearly 8 a.m. (Someone staying on the east side said they had no cold water at that time). The shower curtain in our unit didn't keep the water inside the stall. If you don't want to endanger yourself on a wet-slick floor; bring a floor mat because none are provided. The cleaning staff refused to provide extra towels & the ones that are provided are thin, small, & harsh. If you need extra towels (for use at the pool, for example) or prefer soft towels, bring your own. While there are outdoor activities available in the area, if bad weather keeps you inside, expect to be bored. As previously said, there is no WiFi, & TV reception was uneven. Most of the time there were two channels, sometimes only one. The pool was lovely & clean, row boats are available for fishing. I would have liked trails for hiking the countryside, there were none, although the road that runs through the resort isn't busy. Shaffer's is okay. Not very good, certainly not great, just okay.
