Recently returned from a lovely week enjoying the Eagle River area, and had to write a few words about The Last Resort, which was our home away from home for the duration of our stay. We stayed in Cottage #3, which was the smallest of the 8 available rentals. It was very clean and tidy upon our arrival and we had just enough space for the 4 of us. The kitchen was perfectly functional and the bathroom, while a little dated, was fine - in fact the hot shower each morning was a bit of a treat,,even though it was a tight squeeze. The kids enjoyed their bunks and slept well but the full-size bed was not so hot - just not comfortable for someone with a bad back (like me). Next time, we'll pick a larger cottage with a bigger bed- lesson learned, but really that was the only negative. The cottages are, I think, a perfect combination of modernity and old style Northwoods simplicity. If you're after something more luxurious, the lake house would be more your cup of tea. Back to the cottages -they are all a very short walk down the hill to Otter Lake where the property has a lovely little beach, playground and boats/kayeks. A nice pontoon and powered boat are available as well, albeit for an extra charge. The hosts Carol and John were very welcoming and were never far away should we have had any issues (which we did not). Our stay was a happy one - our girls (2 and 9) had an absolutely wonderful time and both have asked when we're going back- so we are already making plans.
