“Great resort, beautiful lake, nice weekend family getaway”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 September 2012

We stayed with family in the 2 bedroom suite. It was spacious and modern. The resort offered everything we needed. Indoor and outdoor pool, small beach, able to rent boats on lake, can walk to small town with restaurants, golf course close by. Kids enjoyed the pools and game room. Food was just average. We would come back again. Better than going to Lake Geneva which is just too crowded.

Room Tip: you might want to stay close to the pool if you have kids

The grounds were beautifully kept and the staff welcoming. The rooms were beautiful and spacious. We were pleasantly surprised with an upgrade and the stay two nights get one free was the best deal we could have expected to find last minute. The setting was relaxing and the perfect place to get away from the hectic day to day grind. Already telling our friends about it for next year. Can't wait to go back!

The Osthoff Resort is an excellent place to stay...we had a one bedroom suite with balcony overlooking the pool & Elkhart Lake. Staff was pleasant & helpful...always a greeting in the hallways. Food was great as was the bar area. Plenty of sofas & easy chairs to relax in with great veiws and very, very clean & attractive. Walkways around the grounds are relaxing and beautuful with running creeks and benches. I recommend it highly.

Room Tip: Ask for a lakeside view if possible.

This was our 4th visit to the Osthoff. It is always a beautiful setting and the place to go if you are looking for rest and relaxation. Love that we were able to get an early check in, had a hot tub almost all to ourselves, live music is great and you have to order room service breakfast. It's the best! First time going into town to see the Farmers Market which was fantastic!

Room Tip: This was the first time we were on ground level and I was not too sure how I would like it. We enede...

The Osthoff Resort is on the shore of Elkhart Lake, which is about 75 minutes north and a little west of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Elkhart Lake is springfed, which makes it clear and relatively pristine. It is a great lake to swim and boat on. There is a walking trail around most of the lake. The Quit Qui Oc Golf Club is within walking distance. The area is good for bicycling and hiking and birdwatching. The Osthoff has many guest rooms and facilities for weddings and other special events. The grounds are full of lovely flowers. There are two outdoor pools, a beach on the lake, and an indoor pool. There is also a whirlpool and a workout room. The Osthoff also has two restaurants and a sports bar. A few blocks away is a boat dock where you can rent boats, go waterskiing, etc. Some fternoons and evenings, good musical groups sing and play outdoors.

The rooms are spacious, and they have kitchens, so the rooms are good for families. The rooms have cable TV and new flat-screen television sets. There is a good spa in the hotel.

The air conditioners are old and sometimes frost up; these should be replaced. The old hall carpeting also could be replaced.

Nearby sites of interest are a marshland and the Old Wade House, a former hotel that is open most of the year for tours. Road America race track is also nearby.

Room Tip: The north wing is the newest, but the kitchens are smaller.

We've stayed at the Osthoff several times as part of an annual group event. Compared to similar resorts, it rates an average score for a few reasons. During this visit, we traveled with another couple and stayed in a 2-bedroom suite. We were in the building closest to Driveway 1 and have stayed in this building in the past. Although our rooms did not have an odor, the building had a very unpleasant odor during this trip, as it had in past years. The smell is evident upon entering the building from the parking lot.

Our friends (who were on their first Osthoff visit) noted that the resort appeared dated in design and wear, and were also surprised by the offensive building smell. Although my husband and my room had a window AC, our friends' bedroom did not, and they had trouble sleeping.

The restaurant food was very good this trip as it's been in prior years. Although service was pleasant at Lola's, on the negative side, service was very slow during lunch. We were surprised since we told the server we were in a hurry and ordered what we were told were fast meals. The restaurant was not busy at the time. On another day, we ordered drinks at Lola's. The bartender and servers were pleasant, but it appeared the bartender was reading the drink recipes and the resulting cocktails were subpar.

On a positive note, the lake is lovely and resort maintenance of its beach is good. The resort itself is lovely.

Front desk service tends to be positive, but can be spotty.

Room Tip: Avoid the building by Driveway 1. Pop for a garden/pool or lakeside room vs parking lot view if you...

This was our second visit to the Osthoff. We came this time to take advantage of Road America. We enjoyed our one-bedroom condo at the Osthoff with the nice deck overlooking the pond. The front desk team was very helpful. We really enjoyed the water activities (canoes, kayaks, paddle boats, water bikes) and our daughter enjoyed the "kids camp". Great location on Lake Elkhart and nice drive from Chicagoland area.
