Ye Olde Manor House Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 2 Elkhorn B&B and Inns
Reviewed 29 June 2012

We spent the weekend of June 15/16, 2012 at this great place. We had a wonderful stay at Ye Olde Manor House B & B. John and Karen host with such excellence it must be commended. The whole house (including the pool area) is tastefully done and very welcoming. Every detail is accounted for. We arrived on the Friday evening from Chicago and decided to have a refreshing swim in the indoor pool. Nice. The background music added to the ambiance. After which, at our hosts suggestion, we enjoyed the fish fry at Fiddlesticks Cafe. Breakfast at YOMH is phenomenal and my gluten-free needs were catered for. To top breakfast off, we got to converse with our highly personable hosts.

The house is in close proximity to Kettle Moraine State Park, about a 10 minute or less drive, where we cycled and walked knowing we'd return to our lovely accommodations.

We highly recommend YOMH B&B. Thanks John & Karen.

Karen and John are absolutely lovely people who go out of their way to exceed expectations.

Fluffy robes and custom soaps w/lovely Ye Old Manor House logo in private bath, a minifridge in the hall with sodas and water, bottles of wine on the counter if you want a glass... freshly made iced tea in the afternoon and of course, the pool.

The breakfast was complete indulgence (spotted Karen actually scrambling our eggs in the blender -- brilliant trick to make them extra fluffy) which included a flan from their new vegan food business and delicious mango-pineapple jam on warm home-made scones.

Not surprisingly, the house was spotless and a really lovely cottage chic decor. Also v. conveniently located -- about 1.5 hours from Chicago, probably 45 mins from Milwaukee and about 15 mins from Lake Geneva and our favorite hike/x-country ski park Kettle Morraine.

But what I enjoyed most about the trip was chatting with Karen and John. They're fascinating people who've retired from the fast lane after decades in New York for a quieter (tho think busier) life in a beautiful part of WI.

This was my second stay with John and Karen at YOMH. The first was in 2010 with my older daughter and 2 friends after a concert at Alpine Valley. We arrived back late, trying to be quiet, and were off to sleep in lovely, clean rooms with comfy beds with private baths. Next morning, John served a great, huge breakfast for us and entertained us with tales of Housing Authority court case tales from when they worked and lived in New York.
The second stay was May of 2012. For her 16th BD,my younger daughter asked if we could take 6 friends to the same B&B I took her sister to in Wisconsin. I called Karen and asked if she would be willing to do an afternoon tea for the girls and I. One of the girls is on a gluten free diet, and I let Karen know in advance. When we arrived the table was set with lovely tea cups and saucers, silverware, plates and chargers. Each place setting had it's own tea pot and Karen had a large variety of teas for the girls to choose from. She prepared the most wonderful, homemade treats! Some gluten free selections for the one girl, which we all sampled and thought were fantastic. After tea, the girls went up to their room which had a king bed, and 2 twins and a good sized private bath, changed into swim suits and they were in the pool, playing volley ball until dinner time. They suggested a dinner spot down the road, which had really good pizza and salads. In the morning we had another great breakfast, and again with gluten free meal for our special diet girl. John and Karen went above and beyond for this special trip for Taylor's birthday, everything was wonderful, Thanks!

I have to admit, the main reason we chose this B&B over the others in the area was due to the indoor pool. However, we would return due to the quality/cleanliness of the rooms, the tasty breakfast each morning, hospitality of the owners, and of course, the indoor pool.

The Ye Olde Manor House was just what we were looking for in a getaway weekend. From the moment I booked the reservation, the owners were extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are all in very good (updated) condition and we appreciated the air conditioning during an extremely hot weekend. The indoor pool was a huge plus, as was the satellite radio and indoor speakers.

We enjoyed the location of the B&B, as it was located somewhat close to Lake Geneva and a short trip away from the Elegant Farmer. However, being located in Elkhorn, you are more limited with surrounding dining options and you must drive anywhere you go.

We can't say enough about the quality (and quantity) of the breakfast served. The night before you are provided with the menu for the next day, including your choice of two meals (typically an egg choice with hashbrowns, pancakes, etc), choice of breakfast meat, coffee/juice, and fresh fruit. They put a lot of pride in their cooking and we appreciated it.

Overall, this is everything you are looking for in a B&B.

"Ye olde" is the gracious style and homeiness of this lovely place, but it has all up to date beds, linens, bathrooms and pool. Nice fixtures and tons of extra thoughtful touches, cotton balls and filtered drinking water, wine and fresh baked real home made from scratch cookies! It is cozy, lived in and comfortable - full of beautiful antiques, lots of nooks to sit and just enjoy the lovely setting too. Scrupulously clean! And, as many reviewers have said, John and Karen are delightful. They are warm and wonderful new friends - I cant think of them as just hosts, even though we've only met this weekend. And if you play, there's a nice piano in the sitting room. They have done everything right here. This is everything a B&B should be.

Wonderful place to lay your head! My friends and I stayed in the Manor House Suite and enjoyed it immensely. We were there for a music festival at Alpine Valley and when we had a pretty rainy day, so we decided to hang around the house for a while. John and Karen were very gracious hosts and you couldn't find a better breakfast. There was so much to keep us entertained, including John regaling us with stories while we sat around the breakfast table long after our meal was finished. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the atmosphere very warm and inviting. Definitely 5 stars!

My husband and I stayed at Ye Olde Manor House when we travled from the Philadelphia area to go to a music festival (PJ20) at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre. We *loved* YOMH...John and Karen (the Inn owners) are so very nice and relaxed and friendly. The breakfast there was to die for! The rooms were adorably decorated and CLEAN. Our bathroom looked like it had never been used before we got there. The house was cozy and decorated with beautiful antiques. If you are considering staying here - do it!
