Back in it's day, this was once a very nice motel. But that was over 40 years ago. Today I would only recommend this place as a last resort. I returned to Elroy for a class reunion in August 2011 and booked a room here because I'd heard the new owners had made some improvements to the place. Unfortunately that was not the case — there appear to be no improvements since the 1960s. Picture thin, dirty carpet, old bedspreads, thin mattresses, "retro" tile in the bathroom, flies in the room, and you'll get the idea. We had trouble locating the "front desk" for check-in and found it in a dark and dingy hallway in the middle of the building. After checking into our room we realized the bathroom had not been cleaned from the previous night, so we requested a different room. The second room we were shown had a very strong mildew smell, and a third room smelled equally as bad. The whole place was creepy. It was at that point we asked for a refund and decided to stay elsewhere. Half of the motel is rented out to Elroy residents. The other moldy half of the building appears to be open for travelers. I would not recommend staying here unless you are completely and utterly desperate.
