“Great Hotel..Oh and the view!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2010

Overall this hotel for me was all about the view. The room was fine..just nothing to write home about. I guess I would call it average for the price per night. Best part was the view and the balcony.

First thing - Ephraim is a dry town. No alcohol is sold there, even at the restaurants. Ephraim Shores Motel is a very nice place. We stayed in the King Harbor Spa room for 2 nights. The lakeview from the balcony is very nice except for the main road runs between the motel and the lake. (every motel in Ephraim has this same issue- the road runs along the lake) The bed was comfortable, the room was of nice size, the whirlpool was a true 2-person tub with plenty of room for two taller people (6'3" & 5'7") The whole place was very clean, even saw the staff washing down the lounge chairs in the morning. We ate at the Second Story on-site restaurant one night. The food was ok-to-good. We didn't really find a restaurant in Door County that served outstanding food for the price you have to pay. Unlike one other review, stay away from Wilson's. My husband ordered the taco salad and the meat in it tasted like it was leftover from last season, frozen, and reheated (not to mention burnt) for this season. Just gross! Overall, Ephraim Shores is a very nice place. We were pleased with our motel choice for the weekend.

We stayed in early June with a one-year-old and a four-year-old, my husband, and my in-laws. The staff at Ephraim Shores were very friendly and it was cleaner than my home. The staff cleaned inside and outside daily. The pool and hot tub were large. The game room was very dated but the prices went along with the games. Which was great for a four-year-old. The beach was very small and did not have water access. The cement dock and lounge area is a great place to watch the sunset. Ephraim Shores also has a small, outdoor play structure. A great amenity is the free bikes to use. The Second Story Restaurant attached to the motel is adequate. The best feature of Ephraim Shores is the location. It is a very short distance from several great places to eat. Wilson's for ice cream, burgers, fries and homemade root beer. Chef's Hat Cafe for great scones. The Old Post Office for the fish boil or breakfast.

We stayed their with another couple and both of the rooms were perfect. I do not know how old the motel is because it is perfectly maintained and updated. It looks like it was built and painted in the last six months. This hotel was recommended by a friend, he and his family have been staying there for the last ten years. The onsite resturant has good food and a fair price. The enclosed pool and hot tub area were very clean and well maintained. The front desk personnel are friendly and accommadating. Housekkeeping was friendly and did an outstanding job of cleaning.

We stayed here for a last minute weekend getaway to Door County. Our room was spacious and had pretty much everything we needed including a little fridge. The décor was a bit dated. We always appreciated free internet. Of course the best thing about the room was the view of the lake and the nice balcony to gaze at the sunsets. The front desk staff was friendly. The pool area looked nice although we did not use it. Overall, the place doesn’t have much ambiance, but if you are looking for reasonable, clean rooms with a water view, this is your place. The bonus is you are within walking distance of Wilson’s! If you are looking for things to do try The Savory Spoon Cooking School – it is awesome. We also love the American Folklore theater in Peninsula State Park.

We read the reviews of this motel and decided to stay one night on a quick trip to Door County. We were offered three rooms at different prices and shown each one. We choose a side view of the lake and were extreemly impressed with our room and all the facilites of the motel. The pool and hot tub were wonderful and we found everyone to be helpful and I agree about the housekeeping staff everywhere was spotless including all the pool areas and corridoors. Highly recommended.

As we drove down into Ephraim, along North Highway 42, it felt like we were out east along the coast of New England. We soon came upon the village center, a gazebo, where it was obvious a concert was about to begin. Turns out they have them every Monday evening during the summer! Just across the stree is a famous spot in Ephraim...Wilson's Ice Cream shop! Just a few hundred feet down on the right was our motel! It was so nice! Exactly as it had been pictured in their website. The rooms were amazingly clean and had spotless bathrooms! The motel is older, but it is very, very clean and well cared for...each room has a mini-fridge, microwave oven and little wet sink kitchenette. We had a new bed and new bedding that was heavenly...firm, but comfy soft! Our room opened up into the courtyard and we could see the bay from our first floor location. The restaurant was great! We had lunch there and a few of our dinners, as well. All were wonderful! We were so pleased with the location of Ephraim because unlike its neighbors to the north and the south, it is much quieter, less commercial, and just a prettier town! We found it to be a great spot to travel up and down the western coast of the county, even up to Washington Island. There is so much to do right there in Ephraim...you can rent boats of all types, go on tours, attend plays, concerts, visit galleries, get to meet its famous artist Charles "Chick" Peterson if you are lucky, take a carriage ride, a bike ride (on the bikes that ESM supplies for all of its guests to use for free), and there is even an old fashioned outdoor theater with first-run movies! We loved going out to the large cemet breaker and lounging in the sunshine on the lounge chairs or sitting in the Adrondacks chairs watching the sunsets over Green Bay or the sailboats. It was so serene! We cannot wait to bring our grown sons and their families to ESM&R next year! We have been on some wonderful vacations, but this was the most memorable of them all. We would love to live in Ephraim...maybe right at Ephraim Shores Motel...if they'll let us!
