The resort still has great views of the lake, which is a big reason why the review is 3 stars. But overall, there were more cons than pros.
Cons: Room was dirty with brown/red stains in the bathroom and the sheets in the bedroom. Also our travel companions got the welcome bag in their room but we did not.
Pros: The view, and the bed was comfortable, and was in a convenient location.

May or may not be back, we will have to see.

Room Tip: Get a water facing room

Thank you for taking the time to review our Resort. We take pride in having exceptionally clean rooms, and have instituted daily room checks to insure our housekeeping staff performs to the high level of cleanliness we expect from them. I am not sure what the cause of the stains that you indicate were in your in the room resulted from. We have not had any other comments from other guest who have stayed in this room, and we were not informed of this issue by you during your stay so that we could look into it and correct it while you were our guest. However, we do apologize for this inconvenience. In regard to a gift bag being given to your travel companions and not you, our standard gift bag policy is that we provide returning guests and guests who stay more than 4 nights with a gift bag. Since the reservation for your room was not made under your name, we did not have any record that you were a returning guest. In addition, your travel companions had not only previously booked rooms in their name, but also booked their stay for four nights versus the two night stay that was booked for you.

Pros: lakefront location, clean spacious rooms, hospitable service

Cons: No elevator to 2nd floor, broken cabinet in room

We enjoyed our stay at the Pine Grove very much over the 4th of July holiday weekend. We brought our toddlers along and the staff there was very hospitable and accommodating to our children's needs. They provided us 2 pack and plays so the kids could sleep at night. This was by far the best customer service that we've had Door County.

The property itself is located across the street from the lake and has its own private beach and BBQ area. What's nice is that the hotel is not right up against the street like some of the surrounding properties. There's plenty of greenery that the kids had plenty of space to run outdoors. The hotel was clean, well maintained, with a mix of new and old elements.

The rooms were large and spacious. We had 2 queen beds, 2 cribs, a dining set, other furniture, and still had plenty of room to move around. You can tell the beds were recently upgraded for they had new sheets and were very comfortable. Bottom line is we all slept well. The only knock I had on our room specifically was that one if the dresser drawers were broken, but not a deal breaker.

The only other drawback is if you're on the 2nd floor, there's no elevator to throw your gear on a cart. Traveling with 2 kids, we pretty much brought the whole house with us and carrying all that stuff up a flight of stairs was quite a task. We noticed other guests too with large luggage had their work cut out for them. One recommendation for the property would be to provide a bell hop to help guests carry up their luggage as needed.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay here very much. Despite a few drawbacks, we would recommend this property to others and would stay again. Cheers!

My two young daughters and I have had the great chance to stay at Pine Grove resort in Ephraim, WI, [what I consider the heart of Door County], for the past 4 years. I spent hours searching on-line while planning our first trip to Door County years ago, to find a hotel with perks for kids and a family on a budget. Stumbling across Pine Grove was the answer to all those things!
Perks here included a great indoor pool and whirlpool as well as a game and exercise room to keep kids busy if the weather turns foul. The office lobby, although small, offers a fireplace, internet, games, brochures and friendly staff to help with your questions.
Continental breakfast is served every day, along with free Door County coffee all day and fresh baked cookies at 2pm, [we take advantage of that as our mid-day break, yum!].
Room perks include mini-fridg, microwave, coffee pot, a free bottled water daily for each person in the party and a bag of microwave pop-corn for a late day treat. Rooms are spacious and comfortable and each has either a patio or balcony to afford private viewing of the breath-taking sunsets on the bay.
The resort hotel also offers two outdoor gas grills, one to the rear of the property and one under the picnic shelter on the private beach across the road. The beach area offers plenty of lounge chairs to soak in the sun and waves from the bay. As a note of interest, as this is on the bay side of Lake Michigan, all beaches there are rock, [sand beaches are on the lake side of Michigan].
To make things even better, this great place is walking distance from the famous Post Office restaurant as well as the unsurpassed Wilson's and bay-front activities, [boat tours, para-sailing, jet-skis].
It is true that during peak season, you'll pay more for rooms and the front and middle view rooms are more costly, [although the sunsets on the bay are worth it if you're into that type of thing like we are], if you book ahead of time the back view rooms are just as nice and look unto the woods at the back of the property. If you need your sun-sets on the bay, just head to the beach!
Really, the only thing that could make this place better would be a sand-box and play-set for younger kids in the back, but then again, the downtown city park is minutes away on foot.

Room Tip: Book early to get the cheaper back-view rooms. Middle water view rooms are just as good as the fro...

We stayed with our 3 year old daughter for a few nights. Location is great, right across the street from the lake. Our room did not directly face the water, but you could see it from the corner of the window. The rooms were quite large, which was great with an active toddler. We enjoyed the indoor pool every day, both the air and water temperature was kept nice and warm for maximum comfort. The continental breakfast was just okay, they had yogurt, pastries, some fruit, bagels, and coffee and that was about it. I would've liked a little more selection, but it was better than nothing. They also lack a place to eat, so you pretty much have to take food back to your room or eat in the lobby by the front desk. It didn't matter for us because we just took it back to our room right down the hall. Overall it was a nice stay and good service.

A last minute decision to visit Door County Wisconsin found no vacancy in the villiages of Egg Harbor and Fish Creek so we chose to drive a few miles further north to Ephraim. Though the town is smaller and does not have as much to offer in shopping Pine Grove Resort was a very nice place to stay. The hotel is older than some in the area but the remodeled rooms are very clean and the staff is nice and helpful. We had a water view room which looks over Eagle Harbor and their private beach, unfortunatly the dock is not lighted which makes it a bit hard to see the water and boats at night. The beds were quite comfortable and the room was larger than most.
The hotel offers a light breakfast included in the room price but I will admit that it is a bit lacking.
Ephraim is in the middle of the three towns with the most shopping and dinning which makes it easy to get to.

Room Tip: Call early for Door County reservations.

We stayed there in Aug for 3 nights. Clean room and nice service. Walk across 42 and there is Resort Private Beach. However, for beach fun, I still prefer Nicolet Beach inside Pen State Park. Breakfast is fully stock, but don't expect gourmet meal. Free cookies and lemonade in the afternoon. The mattress is quiet comfortable, at least all of us had good sleep thru out the stay.

The most worthy point is the sunset view from every balcony.

Room Tip: King Suite has lake facing window to view the the sunset. But I would choose the 2nd floor King Sui...

Came up for the Door County Half Ironman. Stayed in Room 114 at Pine Grove. The room was very clean and comfortable. The small deck off the room faced the water and I had full view of the sunset each night which was kind of cool. They have a continental breakfast. It is within walking distance to Wilson's restaurant and a number of other places to eat. My room had a small fridge, a microwave, and a coffee pot which was awesome to have in a room. I did not use the indoor pool but it looked nice. i would stay here again. It is one of few hotels in DoCo that doesn't have cheesy decor.

Room Tip: I got the sense that all the rooms have sunset views.
