“Over 15 Years and Running”
Reviewed 8 December 2013

Our family has stayed here for over 15 years. We have stayed further north and in Sister Bay in the "early" years, but Pine Grove is everyone's favorite. Rooms are good size, and recently remodeled (except for the awesome seashell showers from the 70s - please don't change them). Each room has a sitting area with table and chairs. All have a patio that faces the water, also with table and chairs.

The two best parts about this hotel are 1) the location: you're right in Ephraim, so it's an easy drive south to Fish Creek and Egg Harbor, north to Sister Bay and beyond, and easy to get across to Bailey's Harbor, and 2) directly across the street is the hotel's private beach. We've spent many mornings sitting there with coffee and many sunsets looking across at Peninsula Park and the islands. And it's a great spot to swim.

The hotel also has an indoor pool and whirlpool, plus a game room. Staff is always wonderful. Nice, simple breakfast with good coffee and scones each morning.

It is not the highest-end hotel in Door, but it's clean, up-to-date, perfectly located, and the beach cannot be beat. No accident that we've been staying here for over 15 of the 25+ years we've been coming to DC.

Room Tip: Rooms on the driveway side have a better water view.

I had to laugh when I read a review (below) about the ugly bathroom. Dunno is it was the same room or just the same era, but mine was pretty ugly too. If it were my house, I'd be planning to tear it out. But it had plenty of hot water and towels, a nice (and not too low) showerhead, and it was spotlessly clean, so it's pretty easy to live with the puke- yellow-green fixtures. The room was large, the bed was comfortable, and the room was also spotless.

The breakfast was pretty ordinary but there was plenty of choice: coffee, tea, orange juice, milk, cereal, oatmeal, yoghurt, apple oranges, and little scones, bagels, and muffins. There is no place to sit down, you're supposed to take the tray in your room with you and bring it back to your room; which was fine since there was a table and chairs on the deck in the room with a view of the water.

They have a cute little private beach just across the street and it's walking distance to the Anderson barn and Gallery, WIlson's etc. The staff was great.

I do not use this word lightly. My wife and I stayed for four nights recently in October. On arrival, we were met with friendly and helpful staff. When we entered our room, we could not believe how spacious and how clean the room was. We do a considerable amount of traveling and found this esort to be amoung the finest. The view of the water from our balcony was beautiful and the grounds were meticuously mantained.. The pool was extremely clean and well maintained. Comfortable beds, free wifi, bottled water, coffee, and popcorn for the microwave were supplied everyday. If this were not enough, imagine chocolate chip cookies, hot cide and flavorful coffee in the afternoon. Each morning there was a very nice continental breakfast to start the day. We not only hightly recommend, but we are anxiously looking forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: Those overlooking the bay are most beautiful - try those located "courtside"

We try to stay at least once each year and the experience is always positive and enjoyable. From the breakfast selection that we pick-up and bring back to our room at 8a.m. to returning to the room after a day out touring the peninsula from Sister Bay to Washington Island, it's great to come back to our clean and sunny room. The beach across the street is not very big but there's always a chaise or 2 to recline in and fall asleep watching the sailboats bobbing in the breeze...there's also a couple of piers to walk-out on to feed gulls and ducks. You can walk to a couple of restaurants or jump into the car and go north or south a few minutes and eat seafood, pizza, new-age cuisine or a fish-boil...end the day at Wilson's Ice Cream parlor just a couple of minutes walk away....Never a complaint from us...and you can even go to the pool late at night to soak and no one is ever there.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the driveway...they all have a great view of the water.

My husband and I booked a room for a weekend at the last minute and had no trouble getting a room here. We booked it simply because it was one of the few places with availability--not based on any recommendations. We chose a spacious king room with a view and have no regrets! Check-in was a breeze. The room was spacious and spotless, though you could tell this is an older motel/resort, the bedding and linens appear to be newer and "up to date". The room appeared to be freshly painted. The bathroom was clean, but small. There was a beautiful set of table chairs on the lanai (I wish I could find them somewhere--I'd buy them!), perfect for a glass of wine while watching the sunset (or enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning). The hotel was quiet. The continental breakfast was pleasant and my husband loved their selection of Door County coffee. Parking is situated behind the building, which also helps keep the noise down.

The location is ideal! There is a small beach across the street for Pine Grove guests (we didn't use it but it was cute!). Ephraim is situated between Fish Creek and Sister Bay--a short, pleasant drive between the two towns and a short drive from everything else in Door County as well.

We would easily choose to stay at Pine Grove Resort the next time we're in the area. Loved it!

This was a last minute trip that turned out fantastic. Ephraim is a quieter town than some in the area which was perfect for us. When we wanted more shops and eating places (more hustle and bustle) we just drove 3-5 miles to the next town. The rooms are very large, beds are vey nice. rooms have a refrigerator, microwave, table and two chairs. Small balcony with table and two chairs, but angled so you have a water view. The place was pretty busy when we arrived, not full but by the time we left it was full and we were never distracted by noise from other guests. We went to their private beach each night, as did most of the other guests, and watched the sunset "FABULOUS". There are plenty of chairs and other places to sit and watch the sunset. This is a nicer hotel than I expected considering the rating. I would definitely stay here again and definitely recommend it.

I had a big room with a king-sized bed, sofa, table and chairs, refrigerator, and microwave. Complimentary snacks and water. It was very clean and looked to be recently remodeled. I was on the second floor and never heard another guest or their TV. Enjoyed the little balcony where I could sit and watch the harbor. I stayed 3 nights and would definitely go back.
I thought Ephraim was the best place to stay. It was a short ride up to the Washington Island ferry or to Fish Creek and Egg Harbor in the other direction.
