My wife and I needed a getaway from the post-holiday blues. I received some recommendations from co-workers and contacted the White Gull. It was a wonderfully, relaxing experience. I ended up booking the "romance" package for the weekend and it was. The horse carriage ride through the Old Orchard winery was wonderful. The breakfasts were good..overpriced, but were part of the stay, so not worth complaining about if you are staying there. The room was extremely charming, bed comfortable, whirlpool a much needed relief. The candlelight supper was the only dissapointment. This was suppose to be a quiet romantic evening, but failed when a loud obnoxious group from south of the state border came in with a loud, obnoxious, woman deciding to share her life story with everyone within earshot. The sad aspect was, no one from the Inn took the foresight to tell this group to quiet down. Other then that, the front desk staff were plesent, the surroundings wonderful.

We didn't enjoy our stay last weekend at the White Gull Inn. OK, the buildings and the rooms are glorious. But the noisy heating/air conditioning in the room (which you can't turn off) wrecked our sleep.
Its one of these forced air systems that come out of floor vents (bad for asthma BTW). Sounded like a washing machine starting the spin cycle every ten minutes. We stayed in the Welcker House.

The rest? The staff were so busy I couldn't say how friendly they were. The restaurant is open to the public for breakfast lunch and dinner and is packed! But this means you have to reserve your own breakfast table an hour in advance! Breakfest itself was OK.

We had one evening meal there and it was terrible. Nice steak but with jam on top and every vegetable they could think of as an accompaniment made it poor. There's much better eating to be had in Fish Creek than here.

Parking a nightmare too - just too many non-guest customers.

All in all an unsatisfactory experience with little in the way of customer service to residents like ourselves.

John

My husband and I just came back from a three night stay at the White Gull Inn. We enjoyed every moment of our stay from the moment we walked into the Inns lobby. We were not asked for our credit card number again, as you are at a hotel, but were walked out directly to our room in the Cliffhouse and were given a tour of the amenties of our beautiful room. If you plan to spend time on your deck reading, talking or just relaxing I would recommend Cliffhouse A or C or Welcker House 7 or 9, since they face the back of the property and are the most private. The rooms are wonderfully appointed and are well cared for.
In the morning coffee or tea along with a newpaper are delivered to your door by 7:30. Breakfast was a wonderful addition to the stay each morning. The menu offers a wide variety of local treats as well as staples all included with your stay.
The staff was friendly, helpful and willing to have a conversation with you about your stay, your home town, etc.
We are already looking to return to The White Gull Inn this winter or spring.

The White Gull Inn is a great place to stay for a Door County Getaway! Our room was very nice, and the food in the restaurant was fantastic. A very good experience.

The White Gull Inn is by far the best place to stay in Door County. The Inn is quaint and cozy and the food is delicious. The staff is friendly and the service is great! I stayed there for 3 nights in suite 8, the room was in the newer buiding called the Welcker House. We had our own balcony which over looked the front of the property. The room was comfortably furnished with nice details including a nice sitting area in front of the fireplace. They supply really comfy robes and the double jacuzzi tub was awesome. The early morning coffee/tea/hot chocolate drink service with the paper was a nice touch (they put in front of your door around 7:30 a.m.). The candelight dinner was very good (highly recommend) as well the the fish boil. The best part is the breakfast that is included with the room. We highly recommend the Door County Cherry Stuffed French Toast- TO DIE FOR!!! They sell a cookbook with some of their recipes, I purchased one and hope to try some of the great recipes (I'm sure I can't duplicate the Cherry Stuffed French Toast, will have to make a trip to the WGI just for that!). We missed the afternoon snacks that the Inn provides in the main lodge but hope to take part in that next time. The WGI website is quite true to the place so you can get a good idea of the rooms, food and surroundings before visiting. Traditional elegance and you really needn't leave the place if quiet time, great food and romance are on your list.

Whoever said the "White Gull Inn takes a dive" is simply disgruntled. My wife and I have stayed there several times and the service, rooms, food, staff, EVERYTHING, has been nothing less than top notch. I wonder if that person was even sure of what they were talking about because they mentioned they couldn't get a cocktail .... and unless things have changed in the last month, The White Gull Inn serves beer and wine ... not cocktails. Granted, The White Gull Inn is not the cheapest place to stay in Door County but we think it's worth it because we've always been treated like roaylty.
