“Fantastic experience”
Reviewed 12 January 2009

Our recent winter weekend at the Whistling Swan Inn was fantastic in every way. The decor and atmosphere throughout the inn were comfortable and casual-elegant. It has a clean look with earth-tone colored walls and tasteful decor (it's not too 'country' or overly decorated with knick-knacks like at other inns we've visited).
The service was very friendly, helpful and professional. The restaurant must be one of the best in Door County - the meals were creative, fresh and thoroughly enjoyable. We also enjoyed excellent in-room massages.
Winter is a nice time at the inn, with few people, attentive service and cozy fires in the lobby fireplace.
We had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend the Whistling Swan for anyone traveling to Door County.

The Whistling Swan is a nice place, nicer then other places we've seen in the area. However, it's not 5 star. I was expecting more of a friendly open lobby where guests could sit and talk. Not the case, more a of waiting area for the restaurant. Wood floor in hallway between rooms could be very loud. Our room was nice. We liked having our own bath. I was also expecting breakfast to be more of a social event, which it wasn't. Just your basic continental breakfast really. Rolls, muffins, fruit, etc., a bit of a letdown here as well. Parking good. Staff friendly and helpful. Restaurant was good, a bit over priced.

This inn is tired and the upkeep and general maintainance is poor and lacking.

We will never go back.

Save your money and book somewhere else! There are many better B & B's in Door County.

Overall impression... The Whistling Swan has seen better days!

Our stay at the Whistling Inn was just wonderful. We were there in late spring, so we had the place all to ourselves. We stayed in Suite 3 and loved it .The bed was so comfortable that we asked about the brand when we checked out. The inn itself is very nicely decorated-- soothing colors and no fussy chintz.

The restaurant was amazing-- we ate there both nights of our stay. The chef is innovative and all of the staff is charming and helpful. The music is also great!

  • Liked — Hard to say. We loved all of it, but the excellent restaurant was probably our favorite aspect.
  • Disliked — We were there so early in the season that we had a very limited breakfast selection.

My husband and I have been to Door County about 10 times in the last six years. We love the area, but we have stayed in some really sketchy places. Everything in the area is family run and it is difficult to decide where to stay. However the last three visits we have stayed at the Whistling Swan and this place is great. They have a charming staff who are eager to assist you, comfortable beds, good linens and lovely rooms. This is the place we will keep coming back to.

Although the restaurant at the inn has always been open we had not had dinner until this visit and it was outstanding. Great food, carefully prepared good wine list and again the staff couldn't be more accomodating. We highly recommend it.

  • Liked — Quality compared to others in the area
  • Disliked — No dogs so I couldn'd bring my 5 lb dog

My husband and I went to Door County, Wisconsin for our one year anniversary. And although we traveled around the peninsula during the day, every night we stayed at The Whistling Swan. It's located right in the center of Fish Creek, close to everything. The rooms were nicely decorated with antiques, but not too overdone with flowers and lace. Think "Domino" over "Country Living" magazine. Each night, we sat next to the fire and read our books, while drinking yummy sherry and cognac.
The food was amazing as well! The scones served at breakfast are to die for - one tastes like Christmas (cinnamon) and the other tastes like home (chocolate chip). And although we ate breakfast there only one morning, they let us get scones "to go" every other morning too! We ate dinner there too, having read another review on the Door County website...expensive but well worth it! I had the halibut and my husband had the steak - both were brilliant and perfect.
But what really stands out at this B&B are the staff! The greeted us by name as we entered and left, were friendly and helpful at all times, anticipated and attended to our every need, gave us great recommendations and answered all questions thoroughly, chatted with us over breakfast and left us alone at dinner :).
Our one complaint was that the walls were a little thin (it's an old house!), so when a couple down the hall refused to turn down their late-night music, my husband had a little trouble sleeping the first night. But after we talked to the staff, they handled it and we slept soundly the rest of the time.
All in all, it was a fabulous trip! Highly Recommended.

We just spent a weekend in Fish Creek at the Whistling Swan and had such a great time. The location is perfect! Right by the water & in the heart of the shops, restaurants and cute town of Fish Creek.
Our first night we had an excellent meal at their restaurant. The chef is only 24 years old, and is really talented. My brother in law's flight got in late, and he even prepared an on-the-spot vegetarian dish for him after hours. And, there were freshly baked chocolate chip cookies in the lobby after dinner, always a nice touch! The owner of the inn also run a brewpub in Green Bay, so there's tasty local beer on tap. And great tunes hand-picked by the young staff!
The staff took great care of us and were all teriffic.
Only drawback for me was the room. Because it's a converted mansion from the 1800's, the rooms were very small. It would have been better for two people, but we brought our young son too and the room definitely felt a bit cramped.
Besides that, I would highly recommend the Whistling Swan, and I'm sure we will return!
