The garden is turned into a Wonderland of lights that you can either stroll through (about 30-45 minutes) or ride through on a horse-drawn wagon (about 15 minutes, though you can also walk around in addition to the ride if you want to look at things close up. Also the wagon ride only covers the "valley." There are more lights up on top of the hill, which is level with the Visitor Center and paved..)
They say it's over 250,000 lights, but that number is deceiving because the lighting displays are spread out - they're not all in your face with one big spectacular blast, the way homeowners do it. This is more something to explore at your own pace. The Icecicle Forest is my all-time favorite.
They get big crowds on Friday and Saturday, less so on Sunday, but they do a great job of managing the crowds. And once you're past admissions, people really spread out.
I highly recommend this event!
