Piano bar upstairs. Circular stairway to downstairs dining area, with floor to ceiling windows for great Green Lake views. Food was great, great waitstaff and the chef knows his business too. Have eaten here in the past. Would do so again. Upscale. Best place around in at least a 20 mile radius, in my opinion.

We stayed at the Heidel House Resort this weekend (March 9-12, 2012) and had dinner Saturday night at the Grey Rock. The atmosphere is nice and we had a pleasing table near the windows looking out over the lake. We did make reservations, but this time of year, it probably wasn’t necessary. Only one third of the tables were filled while we were there.
Drink order was taken and I ordered a Korbel Brandy and 7-up, and my sister-in-law order a White Zin wine, the others had water. My cocktail had zero brandy color or taste when it came. The White Zin tasted watered down is a good description. The waiter did take mine back and brought another which was slightly better, but still only a hint of brandy in the glass. After dinner my brother-in-law also had a Jack Daniels and soda which was very weak. Even some of the clear bottles at the bar looked like they were lighter in color than one would expect. A bit disappointing for the price they charge!
The appetizer was an avocado/garlic loaf which was good. I had an excellent smoked salmon soup, which was thick enough to be called a spread I think! It was very tasty and could have been a meal to itself.
Main dishes at our table were a 7 oz fillet which was good and tender, a pork loin that was super tender and tasty, scallops that were average, and a brown sugar/chili rubbed ribeye in a ruby port demi glaze. The sauce was good, but the steak was terribly tough. The starches for most of the plates were cold, and the waiter couldn’t seem to remember who ordered which dish. The vegetable was minimal, cold and disappointing as well. The plates were quite hot and when we asked him to change them to the correct person, he almost dumped it into my sister-in-law’s lap!
We ordered two desserts, the Crème Brule and the brandied cherry tart. Each of those were wonderful. The cherry tart was excellent! By brother-in law had an after dinner Johnnie Walker Gold Label, at $22 a shot, which he enjoyed very much. Total bill for the four of us was around $260.
Unfortunately this restaurant did not live up to it’s potential. Drinks were very disappointing and the main meals were disappointing, particularly for the prices they charge. I doubt that I would return to this restaurant.
