“Wonderful resort on round lake!”
Reviewed 18 July 2014

We were only able to stay one night here because every nice place in Hayward was booked for a busy weekend. We stayed at the motel and thoroughly enjoyed it! It was clean, comfortable and a great value. The staff was friendly, dinner at famous Dave's was delicious and we enjoyed the jacuzzi tub and back deck. We paid almost double the next night to stay at another place in town that was terrible in comparison! Highly recommend and we will be back.

We stayed at the Grand Pines on a recent weekend trip to Hayward. We stayed in the motel section of the property and were very pleased with the room relative to the cost. The room was very spacious with two queen beds and a private back deck. \ The bathroom was newly remodeled and clean. Most importantly the staff here was exceptionally friendly and helpful. This is one of the few places in Hayward where you can book a few night stay as opposed to reserving an entire week. The prices were very reasonable and the facilities were well maintained. The motel is adjacent to the nearby lake that has some piers and a small swimming area. This is just a few miles down the road from the town of Hayward and also convenient to many of the other lake side resorts in the area. I would not hesitate to return for a couple of nights. If staying for more than a few days I would definitely recommend upgrading to one of the cabins. Overall no complaints.

Room Tip: I would choose one of the motel rooms for a short stay. If booking a longer stay I definitely would...

My spouse and I stayed in cabin 1 for a couple's getaway. We wanted somewhere relaxing and quiet. The resort property was nice looking. Famous Dave's is located right on the property and two doors down from Cabin 1. Cabin 1 overlooks Round Lake. I was surprised at how closely the cabins were to each other. However, there was no one staying in cabin 2 so it wasn't a big deal. Each cabin has a fire pit and grill which was nice. Our cabin had a screened in porch with chairs and a table. There was a fire place and a jet tub. We did not use the jet tub, because it didnt look clean. We saw hair in the tub and the jets looked very unclean. The floor next to the shower had loose tiles and the subflooring was rotted. There was a mat placed next to the shower to try and disguise the loose tiles. The water in the shower stunk. I was unsure if this was due to the high iron content in the water up north. However, we stayed at another (cheaper) resort and the water had no smell. The linens were in desperate need of upgrading. You could almost see through the towels. The beds were HORRIBLE. I've had more comfortable beds in Mexico. I ended up sleeping on the couch our entire stay. Not very good when you are trying to have a romantic getaway with your spouse. The bed in the second room was just as bad. There was a blind missing from the doors in the living room, so anyone could see in. It seems like the cabin was in need of some major repairs, but no one seemed to care. For the money we paid, I would have expected a comfortable bed at the very minimum. I will not be making plans to return anytime in the near future.

Thank you for taking the time to review Grand Pines Resort & Motel. We offer our apologies for the items in need of repair in your cabin during your stay. We have addressed these items and the repairs were done on June 2, 2014.

I am truly sorry for the hair in the tub. Their is no excuse for this missed item by the housekeepers. The housekeepers were informed and will be double checking to make sure this does not happen again in the future.

It is constant feedback from our guests that allow us to continue to improve both our product and services for the future.

This is our third trip here and if you are looking for a TRUE north woods experience, Grand Pines is perfect. We have stayed 2 times in the cabins which are simply beautiful, and this year in the motel. The motel rooms are very nice, again with the north woods theme, only negative is you clearly hear through the walls. You could spend hours viewing all the decor in the cabins, it's really neat. The whole adventure is straight out of the movie "The Great Outdoors".

For the second year my wife and I stayed at Grand Pines on the occasion of the American Birkebeiner.
We experienced an outstanding vacation. The place is simply wonderful.
The accomodation was in a cozy lodge furnished with great care, directly located on the shore of the lake: the scenary was really amazing.
At short walking distance there is the Famous Dave's Restaurant, not to miss.
A particular mention has to be made to the resort staff: very welcoming and professional.
Truly a perfect place to get away and to relax, and to return to as soon as is possible.

Love the cabins at Grand Pines. We come up for the Birkiebeiner and stayed in cabin 7. The cabin is awesome. It is right on the lake and the walls are filled with a kitchy assortment of northwoods paraphanalia. The staff is super friendly and helpful too.

My husband and I rented Cabin 1 for 5 days in February of 2014 for a snowmobile vacation. We were pleasanly surprised and pleased with the accomodations and service. Our cabin was right on the lake and walking distance to the beautiful "Original" Famous Dave's Restaurant.

Our cabin was beautifully decorated, clean, cozy and well kept. A real pleasure to return to after a long day of snowmobiling.

The staff was professional and courteous. I appreciated the fact that they sent us a follow-up e-mail, thanking us for staying with them and asking for any comments we might have about our stay.
