Mother's Day Family Restaurant
Cuisines: American
Description: Had an excellent breakfast there while visitng the Horicon marsh. The service was cheerful and efficient, the atmosphere classic American diner, and the price decent. Best of all, the food and coffee were both excellent - Swedish panckages made to perfection.

Breakfasts' are huge, and delicious. All meals we had here were excellent. Fresh coffee and homemade pies. We took home a whole apple pie.

Have mostly eaten breakfast at this restaurant and it's always great. Friendly staff and good prices. Try the rasberry waffels, they great!

This review is based on one visit, so take that into consideration. Others with more extensive experience here may have different views.

We had lunch and found the food adequate for hungry travelers, but nothing special. I had the grilled chicken breast sandwich; my companion had the tuna salad sandwich. We both had vegetable soup.

The soup had a pleasant beef-based broth and plenty of vegetables, but was overly salty. We found ourselves gulping water for the rest of the day.

The grilled chicken breast was cooked properly and presented on a standard white bun. The "mayonnaise" wasn't. It was a Miracle Whip-like substitute that was too sweet. The same "mayonnaise" was used to make the tuna salad, so it tasted sweet, too.

The restaurant allows no substitutions (the words are printed at the bottom of every page of the menu), so my companion couldn't get the tuna salad on pita instead of the bread it was served on, although they had other sandwich items on the menu using pita.

Overall the quality of the food was similar to what you would get at most chain restaurants; not bad, but definitely not small-town, homemade.

The service was good. The room was clean, bright and cheerful. There were a lot of local residents dining there. The prices were reasonable.

The light in the men's room was burned out, so when the door closed behind me in this windowless room, it was pitch black. Made the experience a bit of an adventure.
