After spending a week camping in the Canadian bush we were headed home and searching for inexpensive lodging for the night. The Royal Inn is not easy to get to. You have to drive about 1/4 mile down the frontage road. But it's worth it. Try to get a room on the back side as the front row could get some road noise. Our room looked newly renovated and even had a large wide screen LG TV. The view out the back window was of a quiet residential neighborhood.

The only cons were my morning shower seemed tepid. Either there wasn't enough hot water or the anti scald valve needs adjusting. Some floor noises from the room above but that's was minor.

All in all a great value in Hudson!

Room Tip: Back building if possible.

Dear Guest,

We are so happy you enjoyed your stay with us! We are on the frontage road so it does take 1-2 minutes after you take the exit to get to us but like you say, it's worth it.

We really do apologize for the morning shower not being hot. One of our water heaters tripped out but was fixed after a guest complaint that afternoon.

We do appreciate guest feedback in the way that we can make your stay more enjoyable. Hope to see you again in the future and safe travels!

We were returning home from a canoe trip in Northern Canada and wanted a cheap clean room. She had the haggard look. Our room was in back in a separate building that looks new. Opening the door we were shock to see how nice it was, brand new looking, clean, maintain, plush and homey. The room had a huge LG TV, small microwave, refrigerator and hair dryer but no coffee maker. Coffee can be had in the office. We did not hear any street noise but did hear someone walking above us. The water was not hot enough. Otherwise, it was a very, very nice stay. I highly recommend staying here.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us on TripAdvisor. Wow, we are so happy you really enjoyed your stay! Glad to see people like you give us a try and enjoy the numerous upgrades we have made.

We really apologize about the hot water. We actually had a problem with our water heater but was quickly fixed (after another complaint about it). It is no excuse to not have hot water, but please keep in mind that not everything is perfect. We want to know about these types of problems so we make your stay a comfortable one.

Hope to see you on your next trip through Hudson!

I stayed at the Royal Inn the weekend of July 18th, 2014 for the Tough Mudder competition. While the outside of the building could use an aesthetic overhaul, the rooms themselves were very clean and inviting.
The bathrooms were a little small, but everything worked properly. The room also had a very nice-sized flat screen TV, as well as a microwave and a refrigerator (neither of which I used).
I was able to detect a little bit of road noise from the highway, but it wasn't enough to disturb me by any means, and turning on the A/C helped drown out the noise.
I found the bed to be surprisingly firm, which I loved, and the pillows to be soft.
There was free wi-fi that had amazing signal strength, and I was never at a lack for finding electrical outlets as well.

All in all this was a nice little property. I gave it a "very good" rating instead of excellent because it also doesn't have the usual amenities like other hotels--continental breakfasts, pools, that sort of thing. But what it lacks in those features it makes up for in price, because this was the cheapest place in the surrounding area that I could find. There are numerous restaurants and stores in the area, so finding something to eat was not an issue at all.

All in all, if you're looking for a clean, budget-friendly place to stay if you're in the area, this is the place I would recommend.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comments about your stay. We are very happy you enjoyed your very clean room and Wi-Fi signal strength and electrical outlet worked well.

We also appreciate your feedback on the usual amenities and our price, because we don't want our guests to pay for extras if they don't want to.

Hope you enjoyed your time in Hudson and hope to see you in the future!

This is our place to stay now. I could not find anything wrong with this hotel. Lots of shopping around. Front desk moved us closer to our car when they saw us walking to our room. I'm not kidding but our carpet was so clean I could eat off it. The carpet was even a dark blue velvet that showed any dirt, we wanted to take our shoes off outside. Look for all the great reviews on eating in Hudson, WI also. You don't have to eat at fast food places with the money you save here.

Room Tip: back rooms (off the road) are quieter. The back is a residential area also, nice for walks. No noise from other rooms.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience with us on TripAdvisor. We are happy to see you could not find anything wrong with your room, even though there is always room for improvement. We try our best to keep our carpet clean, and it is great to see guests like you notice it. Like you said, our Deluxe rooms on the back side near the residential area are more quieter than our standard room, if highway noise is a major concern. Hope to see you again in the future!

This place looks run down from outside but room appears clean, remodeled. Even bathroom. New fridge. Right on 94 but very quiet and good sleep. Carpet, AC seemed new, large TV. Don't judge book by cover! $70 included tax, on a Tues. Easy access and < 30 min. to MSP. Applebees nearby also better than most.
