Unique property with beautiful architectural features and a view to Victorian lifestyles and expectations in the Midwest. The Talman family moved from Rome, NY and built on this high point if ground overlooking the river. Eventually donated the property and adjacent hones added later to the city of Janesville to be a museum. A middle class 1840s home was moved nearby and offers an interesting contrast. The historical society building also showcases local manufacturers Parker Pens and Packard China. Tours are guided only for the house and start on the hour.

Very impressed with the history of this site. The docent (Jim) was very informative. The house has many rooms preserved as it was during Lincoln's visit. It was interesting to learn of this moment in time. Definitely worth an hour of your time. Stop and visit.

The Tallman House and grounds are very well taken care of and a treat to visit. The tour is informative and not "stuffy" like some tours can be! They give you a lot of access to the rooms and features of the house. Staff is very friendly. A laid back experience.

So many beautiful original furnishings. Great history of this family and how Lincoln visited. We saw the same bed he slept in! Make time for this. We were travelling to O Hare and had time to visit an attraction so sought something interesting like this from the GPS. Glad we did.

This was a very well attended event with exceptional use of the museum campus and facility. Not much diversity in terms of artists but portions of the proceeds are donated to a charity for disadvantaged youth!

I'm in love with the Rock County Historical Society. If there is ever such a thing as a "living" historical society, this would be it. RCHS is incredibly integrated with the Janesville community and host a generous amount of events ("core events'", and then smaller, more frequent events) throughout the year.

The Tallman Arts Festival is a large art festival one for the size of Janesville and is an event that is well known in the area. They have a "Spookeasy" during Halloween with a haunted tour through the Lincoln Tallman house, hosts interactive kids museum themes in the HJW building, and have an enormous archives and artifacts collection.

The volunteers here are also extremely knowledgeable and tend to have their "favorite" things to talk about in regards to the various tours that are offered. If you are from out of town, I highly suggest taking an hour out of your stay to do a tour of the Lincoln Tallman House, and if there are any events being hosted by RCHS, attending them :)

If you like to step back in time, and experience a piece of history, this tour is for you. The docents are very knowledgeable about the Tallman family, Lincolns time there, and the history of the house. We had a 15 year old trainee, and she was fabulous. Great to see todays youth taking an active interest in history,& saving these historic places. Definitely worth the time!
