Upfront: the exterior, neighborhood, and interior ambiance is not super desirable, but we really enjoyed our Friday night fish fry experience at the Bartley House. We indulged in a few old fashioneds at the bar before getting our table. Merkts and crackers within easy reach on the bar top was a sweet touch. Our server was very friendly, and chatted us up as if we'd been going there for years. We observed all of the staff members on hand taking pride in their work and really hustling. The fried perch was piping hot, tasty and plentiful. We were impressed with the items that came off the charcoal grill area. The women that worked that area are on public display to the dining room and they really cared about the product they put out, working well together.
Glad to have friendly parking lot security on hand. I wish they would put a little money in restoring (not renovating) the interior. What appear to be some cheap fixes over the years (banquet hall metal chairs, chintzy, scattered wall decor) take away from what could be a vintage beauty. Tasty food at a unique establishment. We will return for Friday fish!
