Reviewed 2 August 2014 via mobile

We had a foursome staying here. Excellent location and bartender. Good hot breakfast. Convenient shuttle. Close to American Club bar and restaurants without outrageous prices.Whistling Straits is special and the other courses are good. Great flowers at River.
Easy trip to Sheboygan for lakefront scene.

Dear ThomasF,

There is no finer compliment then to get feedback on our staff, and especially our wonderful bartenders; Robby and Zach. Our team really is our most valuable asset and we are thrilled they made your stay enjoyable. Thank you for your feedback and we all agree the flowers are great at the River Course!

Kindly,

My husband and I stayed at the Inn on Woodlake two weeks ago for a golf/spa weekend. The Inn on Woodlake was great! We were given a lake view room and the staff had left a bottle of bubbly and treats in our room, since we had told them we were celebrating a special occasion! What a nice touch! The hotel room was nice: it was quiet, clean, the bathroom had wonderful Kohler fixtures (and an awesome shower!) and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel's location within a plaza seemed a little odd at first, but it ended up being great for us! We loved going next door to Eat at the Lake for lunch, stopping down for ice cream and popping into the cute shops. The Inn on Woodlake also offers a GREAT breakfast--for free! We travel a lot and were expecting your typical hotel breakfast, but we were pleasantly surprised by the unique additions each morning.

It was also very nice that the hotel offers a shuttle to the American Club, the American Club golf courses, the spa, etc. I did have to wait a bit for the shuttle a few times but it was so nice to not have to bring our car. I know my husband loved having the ease of the shuttle back from Whistling Straits. We did walk over to the American Club and it was a pleasant, very nice 10ish minute walk (through a really cute neighborhood!).

When looking into where to stay in Kohler, the Inn on Woodlake offered a more affordable place for us to stay than the American Club. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Kohler (my hubby LOVED the golf, I LOVED the Kohler Waters Spa!) and can't wait to come back again soon!

Room Tip: We had a lake view room and it was very nice and had a great view!

Three of us were playing 5 rounds on the beautiful and challenging Kohler courses and spent 2 nights at the Inn. Since we were only going to be in the room to sleep, I convinced them to put a roll-away bed in a double room and it was perfect. The room was plenty big enough for the extra bed and we saved a few bucks. Overall, the Inn was very nice - nicely appointed, very comfortable and a great buffet breakfast included in the rate. The room was very quiet and I would expect pretty much any location would be fine - our first floor room had a patio with direct access to a putting green. The folks there were very attentive and check-in and out was smooth. While the American Club is wonderful and the place to go for a romantic stay, the Inn is the perfect choice for a golf trip.

When my son and I go on a golf blitz, whether it be Bandon Dunes or Scotland, where we stay is really not the focus of the trip. Hence the Inn on Woodlake. Having not stayed at the American Club, I cannot make a comparison but if all you want to do is take advantage of their breakfast and have comfortable beds and a shower, this place works. We played from early to late so the hotel was just fine.
By the way, the breakfast, while not as good as some reviews would lead you to think, does the job without adding to an already pricy golf stay. Since some of the items are the same as the buffet at Whistling Straits, we saved 40 bucks a day by eating here. Plus, they offer juice here which they did not do at WS!! Plus, I loved their Craftsman/Stickley-type furniture in the common room.

While this "Inn" may not have the charm of a bed & breakfast, it certainly has much to offer. The rooms are simple, but comfortable. Greys, blacks and whites, dominate the color scheme in the bedroom. There is a fridge stocked with waters and sodas, but enough room for you to store a purchased bottle of wine or leftovers. The bed is very comfortable, and while I wish the bathroom had a bathtub, the fancy Kohler shower with multiple showering-heads create a spa-like water ritual which is fun to indulge in.

There is a morning breakfast that is included and is a very generous spread of eggs, sausages, fresh Juices, power smoothies, bagels, fresh fruit, and sweets. If you get lucky, they might even have the berry baked French toast...so good!

They have a few rooms dedicated to pet owners, and if you have a small friendly dog, and make a reservation ahead, your dog is welcome to stay with you. THERE IS a $100 non-refundable fee per STAY (not night). A good deal! And they greet your pet upon check-in with a welcome chalk board stating the pets name and a bowls of treats are on offer as well. I only wish they also supplied a dog bed and bowls as it would have made our travel bags lighter!

Yes, the Inn is located in a Shopping Center, but it is a very, nice looking shopping center with a well stocked neighborhood grocery store (which has an excellent selection of wine, beer, spirits, and cheese...very handy), a Cigar bar named Olive & Ash, some adorable little shops, a zen Yoga studio that looks over the lake, a sweets shop with ice cream and chocolates called The Craverie, and an Italian restaurant called Cucina with beautiful outdoor tables overlooking the lake. Perfect for lunch.

Having conveniences like this that you can walk to are really nice while on vacation. Who wants to have to get in the car for them?

And it is just a quick walk (or free shuttle ride) over to their sister property The American Club Resort, a 5 * property with two additional restaurants and two bars. The Kohler Waters Spa is also near there and is a must while you are visiting! Go for the Couples Massage.

Another great feature of the Inn on Woodlake is the free access to the Sports Core fitness facility. It is just a lovely stroll around the lake. The fitness center has brand new cardio and weight equipment, an indoor pool, outdoor whirlpool, a major lineup of fitness classes ($14 extra) and outdoor lounge chairs facing the lake and a small "beach". It is a great place to spend a the day,

Everyone who works at the Inn is incredibly friendly and helpful. You are always greeted with a "good morning" at the breakfast area. We also enjoyed playing on the mini putting green and reading on the outdoor community patio. There is even a small beach with Adirondack chairs to relax in that is part of the property.

I highly recommend this as a getaway.
Be advised that the rooms do not have a safe (they really need to install them).
And note, that thankfully, the internet is free!
Ask for a lakeside room on the first floor which has a tiny patio and outdoor chairs.

After annually staying at the American Club for the last 20 years, we opted for the Inn on Woodlake. There is too big of a difference between the two for us to want to come back. By most standards, however, the Inn on Woodlake is fine but the American Club is truly outstanding. Some of our thoughts:

Likes: large spacious rooms, excellent breakfasts, good free wifi, views overlooking the lake and putting green, lovely patio and, of course, the remarkable Kohler bathroom appliances.

Dislikes: limited staff-no doorman or bellhops, poor acoustics in the rooms, sited in a shopping center, mundane public space and no real bar/restaurant.

Good to know: lots of dogs which would have been fine except for the one that barked for 3 hours. Not the hotel's fault but bad owners who left it alone. Still something to consider. The Sports Core membership which is included and a couple of blocks away is the nicest one I have ever seen. Over the top good with all the facilities and equipment including a lake that you would ever want. The Immigrant Room is truly a 5 Star restaurant. Our meal was as good as any that we have had in Chicago's finest restaurants. Golf courses are in the top 100 in the country and the American Club Resort is ranked as one of the top 10 golf resorts in the country.

My review might be more positive if I was not comparing the Inn on Woodlake to the American Club. The Inn is still a good value when you consider the total experience but just not comparable to the American Club.

Room Tip: Lakeside rooms have lovely views and small patios on the first floor.

Dear Jaylyte,

Thank you so much for the details in your review. Some of our guests often compare The American Club to The Inn however they are intentionally very different experiences. The American Club is our luxury Five-Diamond and Five-Star hotel with all the amenities of such a prestigious awarded property - bell staff, concierge, valet parking all the items that one would expect.

The Inn is our Three Star property. Lovely however a very different feel. At the Inn we pride ourselves on a very high level of service however more limited services and amenities, and more value priced as you have noted.

I will take your feedback as coaching to inform our teams that we need to be more specific when our guests book and clearly explain the differences in the property. Thank you kindly Jaylyte. We truly hope you have the opportunity to return!

Kindly, Shawn

We stayed for our anniversary. The room was nice, a bit outdated the hotel itself. We had champagne after arrival, which was a nice touch. We had a lakeview room, very nice, except for in the evening there was a loud party going on that took a few hours to break up. The manager was accommodating after speaking to her about this. I enjoyed the continental breakfast.

We went over to use the hot tub at the gym that was nearby. Dinner the Italian restaurant connected to the strip mall was great. They served gluten free options. The shops were nice to look at although a bit pricey. I enjoyed touring the American Club.
