Owner description: This lovely 21-mile walking path, around Geneva Lake, takes pedestrians by impressive homes and quiet lakeside neighborhoods. A two-mile swath on the West End offers a manageable stroll, lovely views, and passes landmarks such as the Abbey Resort and Fontana Spa and popular local eateries like Chuck's.

The 21 mile walk around Lake Geneva is amazing. This has to be one of the best walking experiences in America. A few hints:

* break it up according to your ability. Our hotel gave us the number for a cab company and we had a cab pick us up after 12 miles and drop us off at the same point the next morning.
* just follow the path and signs.
* several washrooms/ port-o-potties are available along the way
* enjoy the journey. Stop for lunch lunch at one of the towns along the way

Do this walk at some point in your life!

Today my husband and I in our 60's completed the 21 mile trip around the Shore Path plus a few more. The views were breath taking. Loved the white house with the saying on the fence and a place to sit and pray if we chose too! It was a peaceful stop and a great place to find rest. Other residents as well provided benches...& wonderful walk ways...thank you! The path is a challenge in areas, but anything worth seeing... is worth a challenge. We also stopped and had lunch at Gordy's in Fontana.

The walk is very interesting and has beautiful sights. Especially the house with the fence with all the sayings. My only suggestion is that some of the property owners should fix up their paths a bit. Some were rough and unkempt. Most were very well kept.

My wife and I completed the 21 mile walk (including a little extra mileage walking around the construction zone in Fontana) on July 2nd. It was a foggy/misty day and therefore our walk was a bit more challenging. The grass/terrain was pretty much water logged most of the hike and therefore we ended up with soaked socks and shoes. By the time we were done the bottoms of our feet were so sore from sliding around in our shoes we could hardly walk. My wife was in so much pain (legs, feet, ankles) that she wasn't sure she'd be able to make it all the way. Little did we know she'd end up with a completely torn meniscus (which was probably unknowingly partially torn before we started the walk). Anyway, the lesson learned was be sure to wear appropriate walking shoes, walk when the grass/terrain is dry and STRETCH before doing the hike! All in all, it was a very scenic hike with beautiful views of mansions, landscaped gardens and the lake itself. Oh, there are some pretty cool looking boats along the way, too! One more piece of advice: be sure to plug the meters to the maximum if parking in Lake Geneva and enter your phone number into the meter so you can add more time via your phone before the meter expires! We ended up with a $12.00 parking ticket because we were not able to enter more time. We were granted 5 hours of time and it took us about 7 1/2 to 8 hours to complete which included about a 30 minute lunch break. Be sure to use the restrooms before you go or in one of the towns along the way (Williams Bay, Fontana, Lake Geneva). There are NO public restrooms along the way! Lastly, I'd just like to say that this is a very physically challenging hike but well worth it when you accomplishment the complete 21+ miles!

My fiance and I completed the entire 21 mile walk this past Saturday in about 8 hours. Beautiful views of the lake and the mansions - truly unbelievable. However, after about 12 miles we weren't looking at much except our feet :). Walking 21 miles on all sorts of terrain is a challenge and we are both 50 and in decent shape. Wear your BEST walking shoes to avoid blisters. It was on my bucket list and I hope to do it again next year, but is definitely challenging! The website has an address to send for a nice map.
