“Great family friendly hotel with indoor pools!!”
Reviewed 1 April 2011

Hotel was clean! Rooms were spacious. Price was super for what we got in return. We had a great time. The pools are great for little ones. There is a shallow pool for toddlers and a small pool to play water basketball in. Also have a hot tub and workout room, very handy. Breakfast offered many choices and fresh healthy options too! Looking forward to returning!

The location of this hotel is great. The bed was comfortable. The hotel is fairly clean. The complimentary breakfast was OK.
Issues:
1. The outside entrance is tiled and was quite slippery to walk on. It didn't appear to have been swept of snow debris or salted resulting in a very slippery walking status.
2. There is an overwhelming chlorine smell as soon as you enter the lobby. There is a pool room 1/2 way down the first floor behind a closed door. When I asked about the strong chlorine smell, I was told the chlorine level in the pool was correct. When I pressed that the pool room was pretty removed from the lobby to have such a strong chlorine smell there, the clerk seemed defensive and said the levels are checked daily.
3. On arrival into our room, there was no coffee pot. There was coffee packets and accoutrement's, just no coffee pot. After calling the desk, one was brought up about an hour or so later. Unfortunately, we didn't use it until the following morning, which is when we learned it didn't work.
4. We were unable despite our best efforts to obtain an appropriate temperature level in the room. Logical guess: a thermostat problem in the unit, as the heat didn't cycle, but ran at high continually. The room was so hot we had to open a window and switch the unit to air conditioning. Afterwards when the room was cooled down, we tried to run the heat again with the same results-overheating.
5.The left arm on the in-room sofa was broken, still apparent through the slip cover over it.
6. You are automatically charged for an in-room safe. Ours didn't work, instead displaying an error code on operation. The front desk clerk, when called, said he didn't know anything about it but could send maintenance up in the morning. (this was approximately 4:30 pm, so we assume there is no maintenance staff available after the day shift?) I said we were only there one night, to which he replied he couldn't do anything about it. I said I didn't want to pay for it and he said he would remove the charge from our bill. On check out the next morning (the same clerk was on) the charge was still there. I insisted on it being removed.
7. The off/on control for the in-room whirlpool bath was intermittent. The unit ran for a minute or two, stopped for a random length of time, then started, unaided, again for random lengths of time.
8.The shower head in our room's bathroom was assumed to be very old, as the spray was small and non-effective.
9. In the breakfast room, in our opinion, they really need an attendant on the waffle cooker, as there were many unattended small children around the cooking area.
10. When we checked out and I listed down all the problems we encountered with malfunctioning/broken equipment in our room, the only response we received from the desk clerk was "Sorry". The result was our feeling of a lack of concern/appropriate customer service.

We researched many hotels in the Lake Geneva area and were a bit overwhelmed with the price of the ones on the water. We have always enjoyed Comfort Suites and checked the prices out online. We decided to call and see what rate they could offer us and they were more than willing to work and negotiate a pkg special. We were very very happy with the hotel and the staff there. The only draw back was the suites with the whirlpool are very very nice but it is very hard to watch t.v. from the bed. There should be a t.v. that swivels or two t.v.s. Rooom was superb and would definetely return again.

Our first room smelt of cigarette smoke so we switched to another room. Both rooms looked nothing like those shown in the pictures on the official website. The rooms were musty and the carpets and bed covers had seen better days. There were no spare pillows or sheets for the sofa bed. The cover for the sofa bed was dirty. The staff provided new sheets but left it up to us to put them on. The air-conditioner was temperamental and worked only intermittently (we went on a day when temperatures were in the high 80s-low 90s). The staff's response to this problem was an offer to change the room. Middle of the night some of us were sleepless and getting bitten by something; turned on the light and horror of horrors the beds were teeming with bed bugs (we counted at least a half a dozen on each of the two queen beds). The front office provided a perfunctory apology but seemed unsurprised by the bug problem. They offered to - you guessed it - switch us to another room. We had had enough and checked-out. Expected the staff to not charge us for our troubles but no dice. Their response "but you stayed half a day!". Never coming back or staying at another Comfort Suites.

The "claim" of bed bugs is a very malicious thing and is currently the #1 reason a guest uses to get a free or complimentary room. We are a Non-smoking facility and have been since we opened our doors in July 2005...long before ALL Comfort Suites became non-smoking facilities and long before the state of Wisconsin banned smoking in public places. We do experience violators and they are charged a penalty for doing so. We do everything we can to treat the room after an incident but I agree...the smell lingers! Our rooms have 8 pillows...plenty to accomodate a room where the fire dept permits 5 people...this guest had 7. We tried extremely hard to please this guest and were very apologetic...the guest did except the room complimentary and the guest did end up staying the night!

The Comfort Suites, is exactly what it promises. A suite that is comfortable. The room was clean, the staff friendly and professional, and the continental breakfast was actually good. The breakfast had the typical yogurt/ toast/ cereal/ fruit options. It also boasted 1 or 2 hot options as well, this was a welcome surprise. It is close enough to town that you can call it conveniently located, though you still need to drive to everything. This is typical for most hotels/inns in the area. The bed, is hotel-mattress standard, so it isn’t the Westin’s Heavenly Bed, but I get a decent night’s sleep. I didn’t try the pool, but it is indoor so you can use it year round. Also, many of the hotels in town boasted about their jacuzzi suite. So there is literally a jacuzzi in your sleeping area. I’m not used to it, so it was weird waking up to see a bath tub in front of me. I was happy with my choice. I did go during the holiday weekend, so the prices were extremely high. This can be said of every hotel in town, so it is really just a warning over a complaint.

We stayed here while attending a concert at Alpine Valley. When we arrived parking was a little tricky, as I’m pretty sure the hotel was booked close to, or at capacity. I’m not sure they have enough spaces when the hotel is full. Our 2nd night, the night of the concert, people were parking in the grass. The lobby was very bright and welcoming, and the staff was friendly when greeting us. We were quickly checked in and off to our room. The room was spacious, plenty of room for us; we had 2 queen beds and a pull out sofa. There was a microwave and a mini fridge available, and the normal hotel bathroom. The pull out sofa did not have sheets on it, and none were in the room, so we did have to ask for that. There was also a nice closet when hangers, an iron and ironing board, and a safe. I will caution you that they automatically charge you for the safe, if you don’t use it, you can have the 1.50 charge removed from your bill. The furniture and bedding all appeared to be fairly new, and the carpet was in good shape. There were only about 12 channels available on the TV.
The pool is very nice sized, and great if you have time to use it. The only thing I found annoying about this hotel was that it has1 elevator. For a 3 story hotel, I think 2 would be more appropriate. We spent a lot of time waiting to go up or down during busy times of the day. Would this prevent me from staying again, absolutely not. The complimentary breakfast was great, they had some egg triangles that had cheese in them, sort of like mini omelets, a waffle maker, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit and pastries and small sausages. The second morning the eggs and sausage were gone, and replaced with biscuits and gravy. It might have been the worst gravy I have ever had, but there were plenty of other items available. All in all, it’s a very nice hotel, and if you are doing something in Lake Geneva, downtown is just up the road, and very easy to get to.
